"The POMP program gave me the structure and guidance I needed to get my course in line with the CVC rubric. Even though the resources to do this may be available piecemeal through other means, I needed coaching, encouragement, and help to see the process through. I don't think we should be teaching online courses in 2024 that have not been through this alignment process."
"The community aspect was top-notch, and the facilitators and material were top-notch as well; I think POMP is the best professional development I've ever taken part in, and def. the best at DVC. The aspect of *production*--actually applying what we're learning week by week--was very different. POMP activities felt 100% concrete and authentic, and thus it was extremely easy for me to buy in (and spend lots more time outside of "class" on this stuff than I might otherwise). I have loved this experience."
"I 100% would recommend POMP to everyone. All instructors, including those who only teach on campus, would benefit from the program. The way in which we are supported through making large course edits through the lens of equity & accessibility only help to make a more navigable, organized, clear course for students, thus leading to more student success. "
"Without a doubt, POMP is one of the best professional development experiences I've had in my career as a teacher (and that is over 25 years). Not only did I learn about how to build a better, more effective, humanized course, I learned how to be a better teacher via discussions with other faculty, especially those from other disciplines. My mentor, for example, teaches in Communications -- a surprisingly very different field from English -- and through her suggestions and peeks into her virtual classroom, I learned how to format my own class in ways that allow students to access all of the information they need. I am so grateful to her for that. If you've ever considered doing POMP, I cannot recommend it enough!"
"POMP is the most impactful professional development I've taken part in at DVC, and it led to much more PD, continuing education, and involvement for me. I would recommend it for any faculty (because we all should have functional Canvas shells, even in fully f2f classes with minimal online components). Functionally, POMP helps you design an excellent online course, but there is so much more built into that--essential and fundamental conversations on pedagogy, assessment, equity, accessibility, and more--that unfortunately tend to not happen in an actionable way that often (in my opinion). There's a lot we can't control at the college (and in the parts of culture related to the college), but we can control our classrooms. POMP is quite simply a stellar way to improve our classrooms, and the DE Team and POMP mentors and reviewers are second-to-none colleagues to work with. It's been three years and I somehow manage to collaborate or connect with many of them almost every day. I'm exceedingly grateful for my experience with POMP and all their hard work and goodwill."
