We lacked consistent, programmatic professional development that focused on teaching faculty how to engage with principles of digital equity and digital citizenship in their courses.
We had an introductory training requirement that outlined the basics of good course design, accessibility tools, and humanizing online spaces, but all of our professional development after that consisted primarily of one-off workshops
We felt a real need to create a place for faculty to come together across the disciplines to talk about the unique challenges of teaching online and collaborate to improve our teaching, course design, and pedagogy.
We designed an interdisciplinary community of practice around online education through one-to-one mentorship, direct accessibility support, and facilitator coaching that continues in post-programming professional development.
This led us to build the Peer Online Mentorship Program (POMP) that supports faculty in aligning and badging courses with the CVC-OEI course design rubric.
POMP focuses on implementing principles of digital equity and digital citizenship in collaboration with the foundations of the CVC-OEI rubric.
