If you or someone you know is struggling, remember—you are not alone, and help is available. Here are ways to prevent suicide and support friends who may be struggling:
Talking about feeling hopeless, worthless, or wanting to die.
Pulling away from friends, family, or favorite activities.
Extreme mood swings, sadness, or anger.
Giving away personal items or saying goodbye in a concerning way.
Increased risky behavior, self-harm, or substance use.
If you’re struggling, reach out to a trusted friend, parent, teacher, or counselor.
If you think a friend is in danger, don’t ignore it—ask them if they’re okay.
Saying “Are you thinking about suicide?” won’t put the idea in their head, but it can show you care.
Surround yourself with supportive friends and family.
Talk to someone when you feel overwhelmed—don’t bottle it up.
Join a club, team, or activity where you feel included and valued.
Take breaks from negative online content and comparisons.
Find healthy ways to cope, like journaling, music, sports, or talking to someone you trust.
Practice self-care with sleep, exercise, and healthy eating.
If a friend talks about suicide, take it seriously.
Encourage them to talk to a trusted adult or call a crisis hotline.
Never promise to keep suicidal thoughts a secret—getting help is more important.
Talk to a school counselor, teacher, or another trusted adult.
