Mary Jane Swedberg happily tends to all the flower plots in her yard. While the heritage gardening of Iris, Peony, and Hosta, etc learned from her grandparents can be found across the landscape, her more recent lessons learned from contemporary garden designers are front and center in all her garden plots. Gardening for pollinators has taken priority. Asters, Coneflowers, Catmint, Compass plant, and many more are found in those pocket gardens. To honor her heritage, a former milkhouse “She Shed” anchors the backyard along with implements tucked among the blooms for interest.

Larry and Connie Binns built their home 35 years ago. It is beautifully landscaped and immaculate.  Larry is the main gardener. Colorful annuals which deer tend to avoid  grace the front yard flowerbeds.  Shrubs, trees, and yard art are nested in rock beds which help to keep deer away from the house.  The backyard has a raised living area. Beautiful evergreens surround 3 sides of their property.  The beautiful blue spruce trees are subject to disease and periodically  need to be replaced by more reliable evergreens. A lawn service keeps the grass beautifully weed free.

Keith and Nancy Vogel purchased their home 5 years ago. It was basically a blank slate. They decided to landscape starting in the front yard and gradually working back by cutting down several  trees, building berms, and creating naturally flowing planting areas. Facing the front of the home is a black wrought iron fence with an antique gate. Nancy provides the design inspiration and plants the small things while Keith is the primary hole digger, plant mover, mulcher and weed puller. They love to experiment with new and exciting plants with a variety of heights, textures, colors, and markings to create more interest.  Newest additions are a pergola near the back door for outdoor living convenience built by Keith and a new cutting flower garden created by Nancy.

Ivan and Jody Thompson live on a hilltop near LaBelle Cemetary. They both have worked hard to make their yard a colorful, conversational showplace. Rocks and antique farm implements like plows, a weathervane, and a galvanized watering can obtained from family farms were used to showcase their flowers and shrubbery on all sides of their home. They have a chicken coop nesting box which holds flowers, two arches with lovely Clematis, two fire pits, and a comfortable covered outdoor family gathering area.

Tim and Pat Adrian have a home in recovery from hail damage last summer. Both of them work to maintain their many and beautiful flower plots. They label their plants because they have shown their gardens to tour groups in the past.  They are members of the Daylily Society of Southeast Wisconsin (DSSEW.org). Pat is very knowledgeable about her plants and mixes her own fertilizer. She also propagates plants to use in various areas of her yard plus has extra to either sell or give away. The backyard is terraced.  Her Asiatic and Oriental Lilies and her vegetable garden are fenced in to protect from wild animals. She has a variety of unusual yard art. Be sure notice the big Eiffel Tower in the back yard!

James and Kathi Tenhover have a large yard tucked away in a lovely subdivision in Dousman.  The woodsy back yard leads to a man made lake and is terraced.  They have done all of the work to create an enchanting, inviting place with many trees, perennial flower beds, and potted annuals with a wonderful display of color.  Kathi especially loves Asiatic Lilies and whimsical décor. They have several seating areas for gatherings and a hammock to spend time relaxing or reading. James has created a garden path out of slices of tree trunks. Many of their trees started as seedlings they raised. Some of the saplings were gifted to friends and family.
