Coming Together, Getting Involved
High Street Coalition: The HSC organizes a Trash Cleanup every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 8:30-10:30am at the Walgreens at the corner of High St and Redding. Garbage bags and sanitized vests, gloves and trash pickers are provided.
Feet on the Street: Feet on the Street is a group of neighbors who walk MacArthur every Tuesday night from 6pm-6:45 in order to show our support for our neighborhood and deter crime. Occasionally we stop for a beer at Ghost Town or Degrees Plato afterward! If interested in joining, we meet at the Laurel Ace Hardware parking lot. Email feetonthestreetlaurel@gmail.com if you'd like to be added to the listserv.
Organizations
Laurel District Association: The LDA oversees the businesses in the Laurel Commercial Corridor (MacArthur between 35th and High). They host many events (including the Laurel World Music Festival & Street Fair. They have an excellent newsletter you can subscribe to on their website.
Redwood Heights Association: The RHA is a local non-profit dedicated to building community in Oakland. They are focused on the Redwood Heights neighborhood, but their reach goes beyond any specific neighborhood. They host community events, and are active in maintaining community spaces, like the Redwood Heights Park and the 38th st Garden. You can sign up for their newsletter here.
Council-Member Janani Ramchandran: Council-member Ramchandran sends monthly newsletters to her constituents with updates on what is happening in District 4. You can subscribe to her email list on her website.
