Within the context of the Community Policing Model adopted by Oakland, the Neighborhood Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) sits between the street-block level of organization (neighborhood watch, hyper-local groups, and the City Police level. In theory, the block level sends representatives to the NCPC, and the NCPC coordinates with Oakland Police Department.
All NCPC meetings are attended and organized by a Neighborhood Services Coordinator (NSC), who, in our case, is Lisa Jue (LJue@oaklandca.gov). In collaboration with the NCPC board, Lisa helps connect the NCPC to the City of Oakland.
Examples of this are:
Bringing City Services to speak or receive questions at NCPC meetings (like 311, OPD, Homelessness Services, MACRO)
Connecting NCPC members to city representatives
Helping to connect members & neighborhood organizations together
As a representative of the Oakland Police Department, our Police Beat (25x) is assigned a Community Resource Officer. Our CRO is Officer Aaron Johnson (agjohnson@oaklandnet.com). Officer Johnson attends NCPC meetings to provide updates, and receive input from the neighborhood.
