Our Team

Meet our 2022-2023 Residents

Ana Acosta (she/they)

2022 Teacher Resident

I believe that the role of education is to celebrate the  joy, individuality, and power of all students. My primary goals are to be adaptive to the needs of my students, to foster interdependence in the school community,  and to commit to ensuring equitable education is available for all students. I am delighted to be a part of the OTR program and a student teacher at Oakland High. Alongside my mentor, I will focus on serving 11th and 12th graders as a Resource Specialist Teacher. I am an Oakland Native, OUSD alumni, and former ISS within OUSD who is proud to be growing my roots within my community. Outside of school, I enjoy collecting books (especially fantasy), biking, cooking, and art.

Bryce Campbell (he/him)

2022 Teacher Resident

I believe that the purpose of  education is to help students expand their creativeness in the learning space. Allowing the students to explore their individuality within themselves from each lesson.

Jonathan Codina (he/they)

2022 Teacher Resident

I believe that education provides students with the tools they need in order to interact and understand the world. With the proper guidance and resources, education can be used to combat systemic inequities as well as develop student’s own personal identities. For the upcoming year, I will be co-teaching in a 9th grade biology classroom at Fremont High School. I am currently pursuing a Master’s in Education and Teaching Credential at the BTEP program at UC Berkeley. In my free time I enjoy hiking, video games, and swing dancing.

I believe education is a tool that can be used for students to advance their lives. It is required of teachers to provide students with a personalized way of learning, with culturally sustaining practices.  I believe teaching is a way to inspire students to engage in the learning process. I am an Oakland Native, OUSD alumni, and former ISS within OUSD who is proud to be growing my roots within my community. I am one of the Track & field coaches at Oakland Technical high school and have been coaching for the past 5 seasons.

Lilly Green (she/her)

2022 Teacher Resident

I believe that a high quality public education is a human right. I am committed to working to create inclusive learning spaces where youth are supported, challenged and loved so that they can reach their goals and have a positive impact on the world. It is an honor to be a part of the OTR program and be a teacher resident at Elmhurst United Middle School, focused on 6th grade Special Education and Literacy. I began my career working in San Francisco Public Schools and have since worked in many public schools as a social worker and youth development program director. In my off campus time I enjoy exploring the Bay Area with my family, reading mystery novels and learning to cook tasty treats.

CJ (Ceasar) Jackson (he/him)

2022 Teacher Resident

I believe the purpose of education is to get students to open their minds to learning. I dont think its about subject matter, I think that it is about the ability to take a lesson and make it relatable to your students so that they may feel connected to learning. I believe that once you become open to learning, then it won’t matter what is taught you will have the ability and tools given to learn.

Jalen Jackson (he/him)

2022 Teacher Resident

I believe the purpose of education is to help our youth navigate as they progress through life. My goal as a teacher will be to help students recognize their passions while they are young and as they get older turn it into a career. I hope my experiences through life will help them in theirs.

Betsy Kinsey

2022 Teacher Resident

I have loved working as an Instructional Support Specialist in Oakland for the past 3 years and am now taking the step to get my teaching credential so that I can continue to build and grow in Oakland public schools. I believe schools should nurture and challenge kids to lead healthy, fulfilling lives. I am excited about project-based learning and classroom experiences that empower students to work together to make their own meaning and understandings.

Melanie Turner

2022 Teacher Resident

My goal as an educator is to become a scholar practitioner who practices deep self-reflection, audacious hope in and for my students, and to establish safe learning environments built on mutual trust, honesty, humility, vulnerability, compassion, support, empathy, collaboration, accountability, joy, social justice and equity, and radical love (of self, of community/culture, of others, and of the earth).
