Basic Skills Requirement (CBEST): In 2024, those who have received their BA from an accredited college no longer need to meet the Basic Skills Requirement.
All candidates must meet the Subject Matter Competency requirement through college degree, coursework or CSET passage. After acceptance, you can request the credentialing program to review your transcripts see if you have met part or all of the CSET through coursework. If you have a degree that is directly related to the credential you are obtaining, you may waive this requirement (e.g., an English degree would waive the CSET for an English credential candidate).
Special Education and Multiple Subjects candidates need to pass a early literacy exam (formerly RICA), which in 2025-26 will take the form of a TPA assessment. The below links are provided to give you a sense of the type of content that is being assessed, though the TPA form will be different than the original RICA assessment.
All candidates must the edTPA or calTPA during their residency year. This is an embedded assessment that is part of your credential program, and you will be supported for it during your program.
