What we do:
CLARE stands for "Community-Led Action for REsilience". Project CLARE focuses on increasing and facilitating the interaction with the elderly community in Tampines West, especially those who are of low-income and isolated.
Our approach to this is two-fold. First, volunteers visit or call our elderly beneficiaries monthly. Second, volunteers organise an event ("Activities Day"), where they bond with the beneficiaries in a fun-packed afternoon with elderly-friendly activities!
Through our regular visits and events, we hope to instil and cultivate a sense of belonging and happiness among the elderly. These interactions encourage the elderly to form new friendships with the volunteers and enjoy the different activities that are prepared for them.
Our focus is to increase and facilitate the interaction with the elderly community in Tampines West, especially those who are isolated and low-income earners. We achieve this in two ways.
Frequency:
at least twice a year, (but ideally every quarter)
A short review:
Project CLARE's bread and butter is providing care and support to the elderly in our community. In doing so, we plan activities which allow volunteers and the elderly to have an afternoon of fun and games! Furthermore, volunteers get to develop their communication skills and gain insights from the stories that the elderly shares through their visits!
NUS RCY is a loving and understanding family that will accept anyone who is willing to help our community. Strong friendships can be formed here and everyone who I have interacted with in RCY thus far have been friendly and willing to share our personally experiences, both within and outside NUS.
