North South University HCI Research - DIAL

North South University Human Computer Interaction (NSUHCI) is a research group that brings together outstanding HCI academic researchers, interactive students, and industry experts in Bangladesh. Its journey began with the establishment of the Dhaka ACM SIGCHI Chapter. NSUHCI started focusing on HCI research in 2017 through collaboration with Google. Dr. Nova Ahmed and her colleagues and students from North South University successfully completed the Google research program, which led to an increased focus on HCI initiatives.

NSUHCI continuously engages in research projects under these domains: Health, Accessibility, Women in STEM, Financial Technology, and Social Computing. NSUHCI has published numerous papers in prestigious HCI conferences and journals such as ACM, IEEE, and EAI, including venues like CHI, CSCW, UbiComp, and Pervasive Health. The group has also contributed to Springer, Elsevier, JMIR, JCSS, and Frontiers publications. HCI experts from Bangladesh actively participate in this community, which has been bolstered by support from both academic and industry researchers through international collaborations.

In 2020, NSUHCI established a lab named DIAL: Design Inclusion and Access Lab, focusing specifically on technology design, inclusion, and access. In recent years, the community has secured multiple research grants from organizations such as Google, the Gates Foundation, GCRF-UKRI, BRAC, UIU, and NSU CTRG. NSUHCI has also organized several international ACM programs in collaboration with the Dhaka ACM SIGCHI Chapter and participates in BanglaCHI. Now, DIAL has 50+ research assistants and mentors.

• ACM SIGCHI membership is helpful for students to get constant updates and to get logistic support from the international community. For students,  ACM membership will cost US$ 18 (Student membership), and for professionals, it will cost US$ 20 (Professional membership). Additionally, students can take SIGCHI Membership worth US$ 7 along with ACM Membership. You can do membership from the SIGCHI Membership page. On this page, you should select Non-Member Option 2. Become a member of NSUHCI

• NSUHCI is researching Human Factors in the mixed method process, including field studies all around Bangladesh. To be a part of NSUHCI, one must be passionate about HCI research. HCI researches are technically more extended; sometimes, one project may continue for multiple years. NSUHCI constantly publishes papers in prestigious communities. There is no prerequisite to join NSUHCI, but the newcomers should be Passionate about HCI Research and hard-working (have to work on projects apart from coursework). Human Factor Course: TRAINING AND RESOURCES IN RESEARCH ETHICS EVALUATION 

• All members must complete the human factor course from TRREE. This course is free, and to become a certified Human Factor Researcher, a member must complete Modules 1, 2.1, and 3.1. This module is in a total of around 7 hours, and the certificate will be given with the 80% of marks in each module. One can obtain multiple times to obtain the marks.
