IN THIS LESSON YOU WILL BE INTRODUCED TO ANIMAL SKELETONS.
By the end of this lesson you should be able to:
Define endoskeleton.
Define exoskeleton.
Identify animals with endoskeletons and exoskeletons.
Understand the importance of bones.
Biologists (scientists who study living things) divide all the animals in the world into two main groups, according to the type of skeleton that they have. The two main groups are animals with ENDOSKELETONS and animals with EXOSKELETONS. Watch the video that I have created below to learn more about endoskeletons and exoskeletons.
A skeleton is a hard framework inside or outside an animal's body. A vertebrate (animals with a backbone, which we have discussed in previous lessons) skeleton consists of bones and joints, and is inside the body. We will now focus on the skeletons of vertebrates.
BONES
Look at the shape of your hand. Clench your fist (do not punch anyone). What do you notice? Can you see the outline of your bones? Bones give the body a frame structure. Without bones, bodies would be out of shape and wobbly. Bones are also very hard and do not break easily. Think about all the times you may have fallen on your knees or hands. Most often, bones do not break
Now that you have learnt about endoskeletons, exoskeletons and bones. Test your knowledge by answering the quiz below. Click on the purple page image below and the Google Form will open or click on the arrow in a square icon (top left-hand or right-hand side corner) to open the Google Form in a new tab. Once you answer the quiz, you will receive immediate feedback. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS QUIZ IS FOR MARKS AND SHOULD BE TAKEN BY THE 28/07/2022.
