AIII/2 TRAINING COURSE
Entry to the course is open to Chief Engineers and Second engineers, who wish to improve their knowledge and understanding of the operation and control of the machinery installation of a modern merchant ship using and Engine Room Simulator specified as one method of demonstrating competence in Column 3
of tables AIII/2, except the Function „Controlling the operation of the ship and care for the persons on board at the operational/management level“.
To gain knowledge and skills related to operation, supervising and monitoring the safe operation and control of ship's machinery in accordance with A-III/2 of STCW code.
In particular, the trainees will be able to have:
Familiarization with the use of instrumentation and controls used in the engine rooms
of modern merchant ships;
An awareness of the need for proper
pre-planning, the use of checklists
and of the timescale involved in starting up propulsion plant machinery;
Experience in identifying operational
problems and trouble-shooting;
The ability of logical decision making
which promotes operational safety.
The Training course covers the following topics:
Manage the operation
of propulsion plant machinery;
Plan and schedule operations;
Operation, surveillance, performance assessment
and maintaining safety
of propulsion plant and auxiliary;
Machinery;
Manage fuel, lubrication
and ballast operations.

The maximum number
of participants – 12 persons.
For A-III/2 – 3 days
The price is 440 EUR per person.
Note: during training course theoretical lessons are given using PowerPoint presentations, practical tasks are conducted remotely on the latest version of Engine Room Simulator developed by Transas – ERS 5000. Different types of ships (Tanker, General Cargo, Ro-ro, LNG, etc.) are available. Different types of engines (2- and 4-stroke diesel engines, Steam and Gas turbines) are available.
