Embedded Files
Winlink is similar to a traditional email system but with extra options useful for radio communications and emergency services. Winlink is used by emergency services, volunteer organizations, off-grid homes, sailors, adventurers, RVers, and many more. For example, Emergency Operations Centers (EOC) can send and receive digital messages from individual operators or other EOCs.
In addition to connecting over the internet, you can link your computer to your radio through equipment that turns the digital signal from your computer into audio tones. Your signal can be received through special radio repeaters to be transmitted over the internet or sent directly to another radio which is setup for Winlink.
RACES recommends that its members install and practice using the Winlink program because it will probably be used during an emergency/disaster. Take advantage of using the Sunday Night Net check-in as an alternative way to practice using Winlink. Contact K7RCH and practice sending a Winlink message. Note that Winlink updates the forms fairly regularly so this is also a way to ensure your software is always up-to-date!
