From Course Content to Practice Simulations
Live VILT Facilitation System for AI-Powered Practice Simulation Design
A 60-minute live virtual build session facilitated for 33 instructional designers across two countries through the AIDA Innovation Hour. Participants moved through a complete simulation design workflow, from identifying a workplace performance moment to publishing a standalone AI-powered practice simulator. Participants who chose to build left with a functional prototype completed during the session.
Tools: Devlin.ai, Articulate Storyline 360, Google Meet
Skills: VILT facilitation, live build facilitation, simulation design, performance-based evaluation design, participant playbook development, facilitation system documentation
Performance focus: Simulation design fluency, performance gap analysis, AI tool adoption, instructional design decision-making under a live build constraint.
Design Rationale
This session was designed as a practitioner-facing facilitation system for instructional designers and L&D professionals who need a structured entry point into AI-powered practice simulation design. The delivery package includes a session deck, participant playbook, demo library, and Train the Trainer guide with a slide-by-slide facilitation script, readiness criteria, and platform operations; the complete system was built so the session can be evaluated, transferred to a second facilitator, and repeated without loss of instructional intent.
The performance goal is to move participants from tool awareness to confident simulation design decisions by anchoring each build step to a real workplace performance moment, observable evaluation criteria, and a published deliverable. The 17 to 23 minute live build window creates a realistic production constraint that surfaces design judgment, not just tool mechanics.
