We are seeking motivated international students who are interested in engineering-based research and advanced STEM education.
Our group is based in a Faculty of Education, but our core research activities are firmly grounded in engineering and applied science. We particularly welcome students with an engineering or science background who wish to apply their technical expertise to both experimental research and innovative STEM education.
At the same time, we also encourage applications from students who are strongly interested in technology-centered STEM education, especially those who wish to develop educational research based on real engineering practice.
Our research group explores the intersection of:
Engineering and applied science
Technology-based STEM education
Hands-on experimentation and real-world problem solving
Unlike traditional education-focused laboratories, our group places strong emphasis on actual experimental work, engineering thinking, and data-driven research, and uses these activities as a foundation for developing and evaluating advanced STEM education models.
Research topics are flexible and can be adapted to the student’s background and interests. Typical areas include:
Experimental engineering research using laboratory-scale systems and analytical instruments
Development of technology-centered STEM education based on authentic engineering experiments
Design and evaluation of hands-on learning activities integrating engineering concepts
Data analysis, experimental design, and scientific writing
Collaboration with industry partners and overseas research groups
Students may focus primarily on engineering research, STEM education research, or a combination of both, depending on their academic goals.
We particularly welcome students who:
Have a background in engineering, science, or related technical fields
Are interested in hands-on experimental research
Wish to apply their engineering knowledge beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries
We also welcome students who:
Are strongly interested in STEM education with “technology” as its core
Wish to develop educational research grounded in real engineering practice
Are motivated to connect making, experimenting, and teaching in STEM contexts
