District: Treme - Partial Control

Applicant: Paul Pham
Permit #: 23-17617-HDLC
Description: Demolition of more than 25% of the primary facade at a Contributing rated, one-story, mixed-use building.
Staff Recommendations:
Based on FEMA research this mixed use building was constructed around 1920. On the 1950's Fire Insurance Map the building is noted as a residence and Steam Laundry. The removal of the chamfered corner would greatly alter the visual language and historical context of Ursuline Avenue. For this reason Staff can not recommend the demolition of 50% of the primary façade. Staff is willing to work with the applicant for a more sympathetic solution. The applicant has requested a deferral in order to work with Staff to reduce the demolition percentage and to nuance the design.
Recommendation: Deferral of the demolition of 50% of the primary façade.
Demolition: 228.7 SF (50%)
