Staff Recommendations: 

1200 Independence Street is a ca. 1900 frame double shotgun residence with reserved exterior detailing. Positioned at the corner of Independence and Marais streets, the building is highly visible within the surrounding block. A proposal to install roof-mounted solar collector equipment at the left-side roof slope facing Marais Street was applied for under permit #23-02583. 

Per the HDLC guidelines for roof-mounted equipment, visually prominent equipment should be located on non-street facing roof slopes. Due to the heightened visibility of the proposed arrangement (see below) Staff recommends denial of the proposed configuration and that solar equipment be installed on the right-side roof slope.
