The second phase of the inquiry guide is Immerse. It is here "...the inquiry community build background knowledge together through an immersion experience." (Kuhlthau et al, 2012, p. 61). In this instance, students will take two field trips: one virtually to the Smithsonian Zoo; one to the Natural History Museum located on the campus of the University of Iowa.
After the field trip, students will reflect in their journals about concepts and ideas that sparked curiosity in them, made them question, or caught their attention. The next day, students will share first in small groups then in large groups their thoughts.
