Week of June 29, 2026:
This week was one of our most active yet, marked by a series of high-impact meetings with stakeholders from across the housing policy landscape.
The week opened with a meeting at Housing New Mexico, where housing stakeholders from across the state gathered to share input and HUD representatives outlined current federal housing priorities. This conversation provided important context for how state and local efforts can align with federal direction.
We then met with Professor Michael Rocca, Director of the Master of Public Policy Program at the University of New Mexico, to discuss best practices in developing a statewide housing plan. Professor Rocca has agreed to connect us with additional stakeholders and will share valuable data to support our research.
We also sat down with Teo Ortega of Sagrado Strategies to explore strategies for meaningfully engaging youth voices from across New Mexico, an important and often underrepresented perspective in housing policy conversations. On the industry side, we met with Miles Conway and Giovanna Rossi of the Housing Abundance Coalition to hear directly from developers and housing industry members about the challenges they face in New Mexico's current housing environment.
The team also met with Bernalillo County Manager Cindy Chavez to share our progress and process, and to receive her guidance on how to continue strengthening the project. Shortly after, we met with Albuquerque City Councilor Tammy Fiebelkorn to discuss opportunities for collaboration between the City of Albuquerque and Bernalillo County, and to explore approaches for supporting precariously housed residents.
We rounded out the week with a conversation with Professor Serge Martinez of the UNM School of Law, who shared his priorities and connected us with additional partners who can help shape the plan. Additionally, Will met with Shawn Watson to discuss the process and outcomes of the International District Choice Neighborhood Initiative, gaining firsthand insight into the housing challenges facing Albuquerque's International District.
Meanwhile, responses continue to come in through our educator and legal professionals surveys. We are still actively seeking submissions through our housing story form, if you or someone you know has a story to share about housing in New Mexico, we encourage you to submit it on our website. The team is actively developing the remaining stakeholder surveys and preparing to distribute them to the appropriate communities in the coming week.
Week of June 22, 2026:
This week marked an exciting milestone: our website is officially live!
We also reached a major milestone with our stakeholder surveys: both the educator questionnaire and the legal professionals questionnaire are now live and being distributed to those stakeholder groups. These surveys will help us gather direct input on housing challenges and policy priorities from people working closely with affected communities.
On the outreach front, we met with the New Mexico Center for Housing Law and the New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty, who expressed enthusiasm about supporting future policy work and partnering with us going forward. We also connected with the New Mexico Housing Alliance and the 100% Bernalillo Housing Impact Team, where we shared an overview of the project and our plans to engage organizations across the state. Several additional meetings are now on the calendar for the coming weeks, and we continue to reach out to stakeholders statewide to ensure broad participation in this process.
More updates to come as outreach and surveys continue!
