Hi, I'm Anum! As a special education bilingual inclusion teacher in Jersey City, my work is driven by my experiences with immigrant and refugee populations. I am particularly interested in the intersections of disability, migration, culture, and technology in education. My personal and professional background, including growing up in a multicultural environment and being the grandchild of refugees, has deeply connected me to these communities.
My career has been shaped by roles at the International Rescue Committee's Refugee Youth Summer Program, Pfizer’s Refugee Leadership Program, the Bonner Community Scholars program, and currently with Jersey City Public Schools. These experiences have fueled my passion for addressing the challenges faced by immigrants with disabilities and leveraging technology to enhance their educational opportunities. I aim to explore how technology can bridge gaps in resources and opportunities for marginalized students and advance educational curricula to cater to their unique needs.
My hands-on experience with immigrant and newcomer student populations has deepened my understanding of their challenges and the critical role of technology in creating inclusive learning environments. At the International Rescue Committee, I facilitated educational activities for refugee youth, highlighting the issue of resettlement and the lack of attention given to this population. This experience motivated me to integrate education, technology, and inclusivity in my research.
My ultimate career objective is to become a leader in education technology, advocating for and implementing strategies to address educational disparities faced by newcomers with disabilities. I am committed to bridging the gap between theory and practice, using research findings to inform policies and practices that foster inclusivity, cultural sensitivity, and technological innovation in educational settings.
Pursuing an Ed.D in Education Technology Leadership at NJCU is the next step in my journey. I am drawn to the program's commitment to innovation, research, and educational leadership, and I believe it will provide me with the skills necessary to advance my career goals. I am eager to collaborate with NJCU's scholarly community, contributing to the ongoing discourse on inclusive education, migration, and technology's role in shaping the future of learning.
