Frequently asked questions

What is NJ Dream Elite?

NJ Dream Elite is a non-profit, youth AAU basketball organization based in Monmouth County, NJ dedicated to helping young athletes develop their basketball skills, build confidence, and grow both on and off the court. We strive to create a positive, competitive, and supportive environment where athletes can learn, work hard, and reach their potential. We value hard work, community service, and a desire to learn and grow.

Who can participate?

NJ Dream Elite primarily serves young athletes in the Monmouth and Ocean County area. Our programs and team opportunities will vary by age and grade, as well as current interest. Concerned about your child's age or basketball level? Reach out anyway! We are always interested in connecting with athletes and families who are interested in being part of NJ Dream.

Does my child need to have basketball experience?

No! Our free training is designed to help athletes develop regardless of their current skill level. Whether your athlete is just getting started or already has experience playing competitively, there is always something new to learn and improve. Those with prior experience can complete our General (Competitive) Inquiry Form on our "Interest" page.

Do you offer free basketball training?

Yes! NJ Dream Elite is currently offering free basketball training on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays for interested athletes. depending on age Training is a great opportunity to work on skills, meet our coaches, meet other players, and get a feel for what NJ Dream Elite is all about. For more information, visit our "Free Training" page.

How do I sign up for the free training?

Complete our Free Training Interest Form on our website ("Free Training" page). Once we receive your information, we'll follow up with upcoming training details.

Is the free training a tryout?

No. Our free training is an opportunity for athletes to learn, develop their skills, and experience the NJ Dream Elite environment. Participation in a free training session does not automatically place an athlete on an AAU team. Team opportunities, rosters, and tryout information will be communicated separately when applicable.

Does NJ Dream Elite have competitive AAU teams?

Yes. NJ Dream Elite is an AAU organization and provides opportunities for athletes to participate in AAU/travel basketball. Team offerings, age groups, schedules, and rosters may vary from season to season. If you're interested in future team opportunities, complete our General (Competitive) Interest Form so we can stay connected with you. We are currently preparing for our Spring 2027 season.

When are AAU teams formed?

Team formation and tryout/recruitment timelines vary depending on the age group and upcoming season. We will announce opportunities through our website and social media. The best way to stay informed is to join our interest list.

How much does it cost to play AAU?

AAU team costs vary depending on the team, season, tournament schedule, uniforms, travel, and other program expenses. Specific costs will be provided to families before committing to a team. NJ Dream relies heavily on fundraising and sponsorship to make out of pockets costs for families as LOW as possible- the more families participate in fundraising, the less seasonal costs will be.

Free training is separate from AAU team participation and does not require a financial commitment.

Does my child have to live in Monmouth or Ocean County?

Not necessarily. While NJ Dream Elite primarily serves athletes in the Monmouth and Ocean County area and currently practices in Howell, NJ, we welcome families to reach out if they are interested.

Where does NJ Dream Elite practice?

We are currently practicing in Howell, NJ. Our practice locations can vary based on gym availability and the specific program or team.

What should my child bring to training?

Athletes should bring: Basketball sneakers, comfortable athletic clothing, water, and a basketball, if they have one (if they do not, don't worry!) They should also bring a good work ethic and a positive attitude!

What if my child has never played organized basketball?

Reach out to us anyway. You don't have to be an experienced player to start developing your game or participate in our free trainings. We want young athletes to have an opportunity to learn, improve, and discover what they're capable of.

Does NJ Dream Elite only focus on basketball?

Basketball is at the center of what we do, but we believe athletics can help young people develop discipline, confidence, teamwork, leadership, and lifelong skills that extend far beyond the court. We believe strongly in community service and giveback, and encourage our competitive players with mandatory community service (where and when possible).
