Reflection on Course and Teaching Experiences
As I reflect on my experiences throughout this course, which comprises of my micro teaching and team-teaching sessions, I have gained a lot of learning opportunities, where I have gained some accomplishment by becoming better at what I am doing. This course has provided me with invaluable insights into effective teaching practices and has significantly enhanced my understanding of the educational process.
How do you feel about this course?
This course has shaped my teaching philosophy and approach as to how I am as a teacher. The lessons I have taught, practical assignments, and team-teaching activities has allowed me to gain more learning experiences to carry out my job as a teacher more effectively. I appreciate the emphasis on student centered learning and the opportunity to engage with my colleagues, which has enabled me to learn from them and create and overall environment where everyone was interactive and supportive. Overall, I feel my teaching strategies and abilities has improved due to all my experiences and will continue to strive to achieve more knowledge and compassion towards my career.
In what ways do you think you need to improve?
Although, I have had a lot of practices and have made progress, there are areas where I am not efficient and need to improve. Specifically, my communication skills, so that I can foster a more clear, encouraging and open feedback from students and parents. Also, patience has a lot to do with a teacher and personal growth. Hence, I am still learning to cope and be patient with understanding students different learning paces and challenges, so that I can create an environment where my pupils are welcomed and happy to learn. Additionally, I have to balance my class with discipline while also maintaining a positive learning environment.
What challenges did you encounter during this course and teaching experiences?
During this course I have encountered several difficulties. These include feeling nervous about being observed and critiqued. Which has impacted my confidence and teaching quality during my micro- teaching sessions. Also managing time effectively during my micro teaching sessions, which played a vital role in my time management. Additionally, while feedback is a central part of micro- teaching, not all team members were coordinating, which may hinder professional growth.
How have you grown as a teacher candidate?
I have grown significantly as a teacher candidate, throughout this course. Firstly, my assessments have allowed me to improve self- awareness. Where as micro- teaching also allowed me to focus on the delivery of the teaching contents, teaching methods and my interaction skills. I have become more enhanced in my classroom management skills, which helps me as teacher to maintain disciple among my learners with different strategies for engaging my pupils and handling classroom dynamics. Working together with my other teacher candidates for team teaching has provided me with better collaboration skills. It fosters the ability to work effectively with peers, share responsibilities, and coordinate lessons. It has strengthened my communication skills and promotes an environment where learning from each other was encouraged.
