Objective: With the use of video and chart pupils will be able to identify, pronounce, and use words relating to the consonant blend ‘bl’ through reading, writing, and spelling activities.
Specific Learning Outcomes:
Knowledge:
Identify words that contain the ‘bl’ consonant blend.
Recognize the sound of ‘bl’ at the beginning of words.
Skills:
Pronounce ‘bl’ words correctly.
Read, write, and spell words with the ‘bl’ blend in simple sentences.
Values:
Develop confidence in decoding and spelling new words.
Foster curiosity and enthusiasm for word patterns and phonics.
Encourage perseverance in learning challenging spelling patterns.
Needs of the Diverse Learners:
Struggling Learners: Small group support and additional practice.

Introduction, Prompter/ Hook (3-5 minutes)- video
Show a colorful poster of pictures with the ‘bl’ sound and ask pupils to identify each.
Time to teach: (10 minutes)
Introduces lesson by showing pupils a video.
Define consonant blend.
Discuss words that contain the consonant blend “bl”.
Time to practice: (15-30 minutes) Whole Class- Show pupils different words containing the ‘bl’ sound.
Group 1- Read the story, then answer the following questions.
Group 2&3-Complete the worksheets below.
Time to Reflect and Share: (3-5 minutes)
Exit Tickets- Have pupils share one new word they have learned with ‘bl’.

Student Engagement:
Listening to a audio of target sound, it grabs the attention of pupils with the sound effects (like blowing wind, or a bubble). When pupils hear surprising or unfamiliar sounds it immediately sparks curiosity. It enhance participation because it makes learning fun and memorable, especially with movements or acting out words. This audio along with the chart aids in the different learning styles. This includes auditory leaners who benefit from hearing sounds. Kinesthetic learners who stay engaged by responding physically
(blowing, jumping or clapping). Lastly visual leaners who will follow on the chart while listening.
Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this lesson my pupils learning outcomes were successful, because they were able to identify "bl" words, pronounce "bl" words smoothly when reading aloud. Respond appropriately to audio clues, such as identifying "bl" words in the story. also by being able to use "bl" words in simple sentences.
Teaching Methods:
Lesson was taught using a student centered approach, where pupils were able to engage effectively in classroom discussion and gave feedback.
Challenges:
Some pupils struggled to blend "b" and "l" sounds smoothly. Pupils were also faced with spelling issues and not being able to use words appropriately in sentences .
Improvements:
Extend hands-on activity time to ensure all students participate. Incorporate learning from peers to balance participation and support diverse learning needs.
