About Us

Our History

Bette Moffett and a group of like-minded women founded Nifty Thrifty in 1975. The shop has been in six locations around Brandon since then. In the beginning it opened as a consignment shop and operated with a group of 95 volunteers. The huge task of bookkeeping made it a necessity to switch over to strictly donations. Over the years Nifty Thrifty has contributed to local programs, projects, events, activities, organizations, groups, and ideas supporting education, recreation, the Arts, commerce, culture, infrastructure and quality of life. As of 2020 Nifty Thrifty has given about $300,000 back to the community.

Our Task is to redistribute the donations we receive to the entities that are most willing to or proficient at using or reusing what others don't want any more.
