Good Works and some Change

Post date: Apr 12, 2017 12:54:48 PM

A year ago Brandon's thrift shop Nifty Thrifty made a very difficult decision and abandoned our AIM: the money that was given to the OVUHS seniors to help with the expenses of their post-secondary education. We found it was taking us months to chase down the award recipients in order to give them the $1000 we had promised them. After 5 years of "let's give it one more year" we made a change.

Now Nifty Thrifty is supporting community efforts. In the past year Nifty Thrifty has given $500 each to the Food Shelf, the Senior Center, the Town Hall, the Independence Day Parade, the Foxcroft Farm Harvest Program, the Brandon Library, The Chamber of Commerce, the OV production of The Producers, the Rec. Dept. for new swing seat, the Methodist Church to complete their roof project, to sponsor Music in the Park and Town Hall events. We feel that is $6000 well spent.

We have been able to contribute to all of these local groups and events because of our generous donors, our wonderful customers, and our stalwart Volunteers. Thank you.

Nifty Thrifty is located in the brick building across Union Street from Rite Aid in Brandon. Look for the black and white "Thrift Shop Open" flag. Hours are 10:00 to 2:00 Monday-Saturday, and now later on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
