Nomi International Exchange Association Overview

We do consultations for foreigners regarding daily life problems. If you would like to consult with us, please come to our office, call us, or contact us through our website or Facebook!
Consultations are available in Japanese, English, Portuguese, Vietnamese and Russian.

In addition, 13 languages are available for videophone interpreting service at the city offices and our office.
Available languages: English, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Portuguese, Spanish, Vietnamese, Tagalog, French, Nepali, Hindi, Russian, Indonesian. 


2. Join the free Japanese classes at NIEA!

 

Anyone who lives, works, or studies in Nomi city is eligible. You can join anytime.

Iwauchi Community Center (Iwauchi Komyunitī Sentā) Tuesdays 10:15 - 11:45

JAIST                                                                                                          Tuesdays 15:20 - 16:40

Terai District Public Hall (Terai Chiku Kōminkan) Wednesdays 19:30 - 21:00
Neagari Learning Center (Neagari Gakusyū Sentā) Saturdays         10:00 - 12:00 


3. Join us at our events!


We host various salon activities and events, aiming at improving multicultural coexistence by means of providing opportunities for everyone to communicate freely in a relaxed atmosphere. Check out our Facebook for the latest information!


World Friends Salon


At the World Friends Salon, we conduct various activities and celebrate popular Japanese festivals on a regular basis. Participate, have fun and make friends!

Host: Nomi International Exchange Association staff

When:  Every Wednesday, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

International Exchange Salon


At these events we chat on various topics over cups of tasty tea and sweets.

Host: We have different hosts every month.

When: Once a month, on Saturday or Sunday

Where: Nomi International Exchange Association office or other room of Terai District Public Hall

(Yo 47, Terai machi, Nomi city)

Fee: 100 yen



Waku Waku World in Nomi


For these activities we go out to discover “waku waku”, exciting experiences in Nomi. Last year, we learned self-defense at Nomi Police Station, and played games in JAIST’s brand new gym. What’s next?

When: Three times a year (planned)

Where: various places in Nomi city



International Exchange Plaza


This is a special event to unite with the world. We look forward to your company! It is planned as a place where foreigners and Japanese can learn and experience each others' languages, cultures and traditions, and become friends through shared experiences and other activities.

Host: International Exchange Plaza Executive Committee

When: Once a year

Where: various places in Nomi city

What: “World Kitchen” (tasty food from around the world), “World Stage” (world music and dances), etc.

4. Nomi city volunteer interpreters can support you


Do you have trouble living in Nomi city because you do not understand Japanese language well?

Nomi city volunteer interpreters will support you free of charge in such cases! For example,

・When you need to do procedures at the information windows

・When you need to consult the teachers at you children’s school

・When you want to go to a hospital, etc.

Support available in English, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese.

 

How to apply:

Fill in an application form, and turn in at the Association office or the information window of any Nomi city office, or E-mail or FAX to the Association office by a week before the scheduled date.
