Client project | The New Media Incubator | Spring 2019-Spring 2022
What it is: A series of 24 videos created for a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) hosted on the Parallax Learning Hub website. The videos are aimed at an audience of small-business entrepreneurs, and cover how to become a contractor with the US Air Force.
What I did: I produced all of the motion graphics for each of the 24 videos. Over the course of the project I cultivated a strong and cohesive aesthetic for the videos. I also edited the voiceover scripts when needed for clarity and concision.
Why it's included: This series might be one of the things I'm most proud of in this portfolio. It took up the bulk of my time working during grad school and through it I learned most of what I know now about motion graphic design. Aesthetically, it also informed a lot of the work I would go on to do for Parallax.
Personal project | Spring 2022
What it is: This is a video I produced for a presentation given by my partner, who is a student of Music Education at Kennesaw State University in Georgia. In the video, she describes her work transcribing centuries-old sheet music for Gregorian chants into modern notation, and also provides a performance of the chant.
What I did: This project was researched, presented, and performed by my partner; I provided motion graphics and video editing.
Why it's included: Music theory is a topic I know virtually nothing about, and so I consider this project a great demonstration of my ability to adapt to unfamiliar content and still create graphics that engage with it meaningfully. If I could do it again, however, I'd like to have found a better way to present both halves of the screen in the performance segment in a way that makes it easier to look at both at the same time.
Class project | Spring 2021
What it is: Two videos that I completed for assignments in a Professional Editing course at Wright State University. The first deals with document design principles using a recipe for apple pie as an easy illustrative example. The second deals with grammar, specifically how to use subordinate clauses for rhetorical purposes.
What I did: I produced both of these videos in full, from scripting and voiceover to motion graphics, drawing on concepts in the course textbook.
Why it's included: I'm proud of my use of motion to help illustrate these concepts, and specifically how I was able to time them to match and flow with my voiceover. It was a good exercise in completely self-directed video production.
