After a 'smashing' opening to Epic Universe in 2025, Universal decided to focus their attention on Islands of Adventure by renovate two areas of the park that were in need of an upgrade. Both Suess Landing and The Lost Continent had become lost in the shuffle compared to the more popular Velocicoaster and Wizarding World of Harry Potter adjacent to the lands.

In an attempt to keep up with the saturation of IPs The Walt Disney Company had accumulated over the years, Universal sought to mend its relationship with Nickelodeon while purchasing the rights for Cartoon Network properties. Both networks had grown avid nostalgic fanbases over the years and Universal's intention with this purchase was to emulate the success of Super Nintendo World, but with classic animated characters.
