Project description

For this assignment I was tasked with researching a current emerging technology and then creating a presentation that focused on how to effectively communicate my findings. For this project I chose to research the emerging technology of 3D printing.

Project artifacts

Below are three different images that I used in my PowerPoint along with a little snippet of text explaining how each image fits into my presentation.

This is meant to be an image of a strand of DNA. I used this image on my "latest news and advancements" slide as one of the newest technologies to come from 3D printing is bioprinting, a form of 3D printing that uses viable living cells to print tissue.

This is meant to be a logo for my overall presentation as I chose to research the emerging technology of 3D printing. This image can be found on the second slide of my presentation and I treat the image almost as a heading as its located at the top of the slide next to the slide title "Why is 3D printing important?"

This is an image of a feather and its used to represent one of the many advantages of 3D printing. The main material used in 3D printing is plastic which offers an advantage as it is much lighter to its metal equivalence. This is particularly important in industries such as automotive and aerospace where light-weighting is an issue and can deliver greater fuel efficiency.

Lesson Learned

One lesson that I learned while completing my emerging technology project was the value of creating a simple presentation. Often times when students are tasked with creating a presentation such as a PowerPoint they overcomplicate their slides with to much text, images, or visual effects. This can often make your presentation seem boring and uninteresting which will turn off your audience. However, by sticking to the basics and creating a simple presentation that allows you as the presenter to show off your findings rather than just your PowerPoint, your sure to reel in your audience and show them a presentation that will be worth their time.
