In the past 2 years up to now, Cedar Point has gotten 3 different roller coasters, Wild Mouse, Top Thrill 2, and Siren's Curse. This is the most consecutive additions to the park in Cedar Point history, and I can't help but wonder, why? And will they take a break for 2026/2027?
In 2023, Cedar Point added The Boardwalk, a brand new themed area home to GateKeeper, and the new for 2023 Wild Mouse, a Zamperla spinning mouse, and other flat rides. This area was just vacated when Wicked Twister closed in 2021, Cedar Point themed the Boardwalk to a classic beach boardwalk park with smaller rides and one big coaster. The Boardwalk is right next to the Cedar Point beach, so the themed worked out perfectly and turned out better than I thought it would. With the addition of The Boardwalk in 2023, came a brand new restaraunt, The Grand Pavilion. Some thought The Boardwalk was a filler addition to prepare for the modification of Top Thrill Dragster, and they were correct as Top Thrill 2 was announced in late 2023 and expected to open in 2024.
Top Thrill 2 was a groundbreaking addition to Cedar Point as the original Top Thrill Dragster had a devastating accident in 2021 when a metal sensor flagger on the green train flew off and hit someone in the queue line. Cedar Point knew this was the final straw for Dragster, but they didn't want to remove the iconic 420 foot top hat. They still wanted Dragster, but they could not operate it the way it was, so they decided to put an LSM swing launch and a 420 foot spike on it. Riders would launch at 74 MPH on the first launch and go about 200 feet up the top hat, then roll back and launch at 101 MPH up the 420 foot spike, then plummet into another launch getting up to 120 MPH, clearing the top hat.Â
Sadly, Top Thrill 2 only operated for 8 days in its opening season in 2024. They found issues in the designs of the Zamperla Lightning trains that needed fixing, such as the wheel bogies cracking. Top Thrill 2 closed for the rest of the 2024 season after that. Thankfully, Top Thrill 2 has had a great year in 2025, going down occasionally but nowhere near as much as Top Thrill Dragster.
Because of Top Thrill 2 barely operating in 2024, Cedar Point decided to say Sorry by announcing Siren's Curse, North America's Tallest, Fastest and Longest tilt coaster by Vekoma. This would also be the first new generation Vekoma tilt coaster to ever open. Siren's Curse would not be ready for 2025 opening day, however would open on June 28th to rave reviews.
They also announced the closure of Snake River Falls towards the end of the 2024 season. Snake River Falls was a boat ride in Fronteir Town near Maverick. in the Snake River Falls plot of land, Cedar Point has been adding random sunflowers on boats. We don't currently know if this is a teaser, however we do have speculation.
