Expensive cars

A car is not just a means of transportation, it demonstrates the status of a person, his financial condition. More recently, newspaper headlines were full of news that Lyubov Uspenskaya received a Rolls-Royce car worth 30 million rubles as a gift from her husband. We tried to figure out whether this is the limit, and analyzed the most expensive cars in different categories.\

Double Exelero was bought by Brian Williams for $ 8 million (515 million 200 thousand rubles).

The retro cars in the picture are even more expensive. Supercar Ferrari 250 GTO 1962, sold in 2018 at an auction in the United States for $ 48,400,000 (3,210,415,560 rubles), to this day remains the most expensive rare car in the world.

The pre-war years, even during the Great Depression, were the heyday of the automotive industry. There were few obvious leaders, so each enterprising businessman had a great perspective - to master a new and extremely promising niche. Thousands of such attempts ended in complete fiasco, but some nevertheless left a bright, albeit short, mark on automobile history. In particular, when it comes to the Talbot Lago Grand Sport car, created in 1935 after the bankruptcy of the Sunbeam-Talbot-Darracq company and the creation of a unit based on the factory in Suren, France, headed by one of the STD managers Antonio Lago. He managed to establish the production of machines with six-cylinder engines which, as a result of modernization, became four-liter and developed 165 liters. from. The company revived the series after the war: in 1946, a sports car called the T26 appeared, in which the engine capacity increased to 4.5 liters, and power increased to 280 liters. from. A feature of the power unit was the use of two camshafts and three carburetors. Later, the T26 was renamed the Grand Sport, and under this name the car is known today. An elongated front end is the main feature of the car, but no less admirable is the luxurious interior in red colors. A total of 12 such cars were produced, which today are estimated at a fantastic $ 2.5 million.

There is an opinion that the grandees of the automotive industry, to which Porsche can certainly be attributed, do not devote their efforts to the design of small-scale cars. In general, it is - this is the patrimony of small companies that understand that the path to the heights of the auto business is only available in this direction. And still there is an exception, a striking example of which is the Porsche 916, a car that has added to the list of rare car models. The engineers of the famous German brand for decades have formed the corporate identity of their cars, which was guessed in all models. “Gecko” design is a style that is really easily recognizable. But the lack of angularity, as it turned out, is a double-edged sword. Any dent instantly transformed beyond recognition the perfectly verified lines, and an attempt to solve this problem led to the appearance of the 916th model. Someone from the manual did not like the unusual experimental exterior, and everything was limited to a series of 11 copies. However, everything in the world is relative, and today this rarity, accelerating to 233 km / h, is considered a very valuable acquisition for any collector. But such a pleasure are expensive  cars - the starting price has already reached the three-million mark, and with time it will surely only grow.

The second half of the 50s is estimated by many experts as the “golden era” of the automotive industry. Having recovered from the post-war difficult times, the automotive industry began to revive, demonstrating a huge number of new products, most of which can be described as concept cars, and not born offspring. The F-88 series appeared in 1954, and it was said about it that this is exactly the car that Oldsmobile was waiting for. The fact is that General Motors, which owned this brand, focused on the production of mass models of the middle class - representative limousines were not interested in management, not to mention sports cars. Nevertheless, the approval for the development of the concept was given, and as a result, over the course of 1954-1959, three generations of F-88 concept cars saw the light of day. And it so happened that only the first of them has survived to this day. It is not surprising that when he last changed his master, he had to pay 2.34 million dollars for a unique rare copy. What is remarkable about this car? Oldsmobile F-88 is the quintessence of what we call the generic concept of “vintage classic”. Although the filling of the car was not striking (the 250-socket Rocket V-8 engine), the exterior completely compensated for the lack of power. Among the memorable engineering solutions can also be called a very atypical arrangement of the gearshift lever: between the passenger and driver's seats. You will be surprised, but in those days this lever was located under the steering wheel. So to some extent, the F-88 can be called a trendsetter.
