Keeping the Community Safe is the goal of the Road Division. Deputies patrol a total of 459 square miles in Newport County, providing law enforcement services and assisting citizens to over 196,000 residents in 26 townships. Road Deputies work 365 days a year, providing the highest level of service and protection, in order to prevent crime and preserve peace. This is done by conducting ourselves with the highest ethical standards.
The Road Division includes (SRO's) School Resource Officers, who provide more than school security. Deputies are assigned throughout five school districts, serving as educators, mentors and support figures for students while maintaining the physical security of the school.
Weights and scales vehicles operate within the Road Division. A Deputy monitors conveyance by validating weight regulations, compliance with service hours, and confirming equipment safety on oversized carriers. These safety checks serve as a preventive means to decrease the damage of the County’s roadways.

The Civil Division is responsible for providing security for the Common Pleas Court and all County buildings. Civil Division Deputies provide prisoner transports to County and Municipal Courts, and serve subpoenas and protection orders. The Civil Division is also responsible for transporting individuals with warrants back to Newport County for adjudication.
Civil Division Deputies also pick up and convey subjects deemed mentally ill by Probate Court and transfer court ordered prisoners to mental health facilities. In addition, the Civil Division provides vehicle immobilizations for all of the County Courts.
