Subject knowledge underpins a huge amount of the work of a Secondary school teacher. However, whilst you may well have impressive subject knowledge, nobody can possibly be an expert in every area of their subject all of the time; you are always going to encounter areas you aren't as confident with. Therefore, knowing what those areas for development are and how to work on them is an important part of being a Secondary teacher.
This task has two parts:
Select your subject's knowledge audit from the links below. Complete this so you can identify areas of particular strength and areas for development.
Once your audit is completed, create a teaching resource based on one of the topics identified as an area for development from your audit.
By 'teaching resource', we are asking for anything at all that might be used within a classroom, such as a worksheet, a few powerpoint slides, a knowledge organiser etc. You only need to create one such resource, and only for one identified topic. It's not about addressing all the potential areas for development, but rather just starting the process of working on your subject knowledge for your teaching that you will likely end up part of during the PGCE year.
Below are some exemplar resources and a video further explaining the task.
This is an example powerpoint. You will see it has some objectives, some information and various prompts and questions that would form discussions and activities for students during the lesson.
This is an example worksheet with a task for students to do during the lesson.
These are some more powerpoint slides as another example. They give some information and again have some prompts and questions.
