One of the main points about being a Secondary school teacher is that you are teaching as a subject specialist. Hopefully that means you've got a real passion and enthusiasm for your chosen subject as a result!
This task, therefore, is to consider what role your own chosen subject serves in school, and how pupils might learn within it. You may want to take a look at the National Curriculum and its comments on your subject area to help with this.
The task to complete is to answer the following questions:
What is the role and purpose of your subject in school?
How do pupils learn in your subject?
There is no 'correct' answer to these questions. Rather, it's just about getting you to think about your perception of the subject you are going to be teaching.
Complete this task in any of the following ways, but do not use the method you select for another of the tasks:
Verbal (recorded audio)
Written essay (500 words maximum)
Poster
Powerpoint
Image collage (and rationale- written or audio)
Mind map
StoryboardÂ
Below is a video explaining the task, and an exemplar that has been completed to give you an idea of how you might complete the task. Emphasis is on the word 'might' because, again, there is no right way to answer these questions!
This is an exemplar image collage for this task. If you open it up there is a brief rationale/explanation for each of the 2 slides in the notes.
