All new students come across unfamiliar things and are unsure about what they're meant to be doing. As a student, it's important to use the university services that have been designed to help you succeed.

The Learning Development Team (Jacqui and Elaine) are here to help you develop your academic writing and study skills throughout your time at Newman. The team offer both group and individual advice through our regular workshops (on things like essay structure and academic style), one to one bookable appointments with ourselves, and with the Writing Mentor and IT Mentors. These appointments are all bookable and include flexible options like: Zoom, telephone, face to face or email.

Once semester begins, we suggest that you self-enrol on the Moodle page run by the learning support team, which is where you can book appointments and find further resources. The link will be available here in early October.
You can print, scan or copy from the campus computers. You'll need your student ID card to do this, and you'll need print credit to print.

IT support help with tech matters such as enrolling, email and accessing myNewman.
Once you've enrolled, you can click here to go to the Self-service portal to find support or log an issue. It's also accessible via myNewman - simply follow the link to the university self-service portal.

Wi-Fi is available around campus to allow you to bring your own devices and access the world wide web.
Connecting to the Wi-Fi
Staff and students are able to connect to eduroam. This is a wireless network that allows you to access the internet at Newman, and also at a large collection of other participating institutions. Please follow the instructions in our knowledge item for connecting to eduroam.
Wi-Fi speed
Did you know that you can check the speed of the Wi-Fi wherever you are on campus? Grab your phone, open your favourite web browser, and do a Google search for 'speed test'. Then click on the button which says 'Run Speed Test'. Don't bother trying to do this on a Newman PC though - they're not connected to Wi-Fi!

The security lodge (in the lower St Chad's atrium) can help with parking permits and lost property. They are also there to keep the campus safe, including carrying out patrols and monitoring CCTV.
