P6/7

Mrs Ferguson

Here is what we have been learning about in P6/7:

2022/2023 - Mr McLean

Imporvising musical 'coversations' on a minor pentatonic scale. There's been such an amazing improvement in everyone's confidence over the last few weeks. We're hearing more interesting rhythms, sticking to the beat, listening to each other and responding.

P6/7 had the best day ever in what is the real highlight of our term so far. We were thrilled to take part in a full day of STEM activities thanks to UHI Newton Rooms. The pupils showed great skill and creativity in a series of challenges. There were some fantastic problem solving skills observed with pupils cooperating positively and enthusiastically. Huge thanks  to The Newton Rooms .

2021/2022 - Mrs Anderson

The Night Bus Hero Onjali Q.Rauf

We have been discussing different types of bullying and the negative effects that these have on people. We know the importance of preventing bullying happening.

As part of our IDL we were locating various places in Scotland.

We have been working with Finlay from Active Schools this term learning  to become Young Leaders.

We are learning how to deliver instructions clearly and to be aware of making games fun but keeping everyone safe.

We have been finding out about the Scottish artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh and taking inspiration from his Rose design.

We made a recipe for Friendship Soup. These were all very successful and could be enjoyed at home!

This week we have been working with a budget to find accommodation and activities for a trip to our area.

We had to research prices then calculate to make sure we didn't over spend. We then posed questions for our peers to answer. We discovered that there are lots of great activities locally that don't cost a penny!

After the October holidays P6/7 will be helping to prepare the Blythswood Boxes. Please help by sending in any old shoe boxes and any items you can spare. More information will follow shortly.

Blythswood Shoe Box Appeal.

Thank you

This week we were baking some seriously delicious cakes.

A wee Hallowe'en theme starting!

Mouth watering!

This week we have joined the Columba 1400 Leadership Academy

"Our purpose is simple: to help young people realise that they already have the inner greatness and confidence to transform their own lives and those around them."

We considered what we have" to offer our peers  and what, in return we would want from our peers.

We started the first of our exciting programmes with the Glasgow Science Centre this week where we will be learning about Renewable Energy. We worked in groups to build our own wind turbines and made some predictions and observations about how they would work. It was a very interesting lesson and we’re looking forward to exploring the rest of the programme!

A huge well done to P6/7 for our great Road Safety Assembly!

We showed our audience that we have good techniques and talent!

We have been busy drawing our text maps.

This is a great way to allow the children to internalise some key phrasing of the text.

We had great fun working as a team. We had to recognise the qualities that made a good team.

We had to consider what was needed to, Show up, Light up, Build up and Never Give up!

Working as part of a team we were working collaboratively to build the highest tower using natural resources.

It's beginning to look at lot like Christmas!

African Silhouettes, inspired by our novel which is based in Malawi.

Fabulous

Festive

Fun!

Delicious Banana Cake

Fantastic baking skills

Tremendous teamwork!

What a treat!

Congratulations to All our Young Leaders!

A huge thank you to Fin for helping us learn the skills needed to be successful Young Leaders.

P6/7 are looking forward to performing for you on Monday!

Party time! Great dances, great games and great fun!

Party food

Treats !

The Galette des Rois is part of a very French tradition. Families get together to share the Galette on Epiphany, 6th January, the date that marks the arrival of  the 3 Kings.

Inside the cake is a special treasure. The lucky person who receives the treasure is The King for the day!

Superb icing!

Look how our lucky " King for the Day" was!

Everyone agreed that this was another successful recipe!

We have been discussing the diverse issues of culture, values and customs in our society and comparing them with other societies.

As part of our learning about China we have been finding China in the atlas and identifying main cities, mountains and rivers.

As part of our learning on China we cooked noodles and tried soya sauce and chilli sauce!

Comparing lifestyles we tried using chopsticks.

Everyone managed surprisingly well!

We constructed and designed our paper plate Chinese Dragons.

Robert Burns is our national poet of Scotland. He is a greatly beloved figure all over the world.

Red, Red, Rose was written as a love poem, written to be sung. We creatively wrote the words to make Robert's portrait.

A little taste of Scotland with our shortbread!

Lots of great skills!

Experts with the washing up!

Enjoying our favourite songs in our wee Scottish Sing-along.

Rounding off our afternoon with some ceilidh dancing.

We made bird seed feeders this morning.

The fat holds the seeds squidgy mess together.

It was very messy but no-one ( other than Mrs Anderson and Mrs Irvine) chose to wear gloves!

These are bound to bring the birds flocking!

As part of our Learning about China we were looking at the Chinese New Year.

This is the Year of The Tiger.

What impressive sketches we did!

Some of our bakers this morning!

Great fraction work , life skills maths!

Yogurt Cake!

Making warm colours as a background for our Olympic Flags

Today we were making mini Lego Olympians!

 Making a stadium

A Paralympic skier and a bob sled

Ski jump

Boxing stadium

A bob sled and a skier

Look at these amazing gymnasts! ( Amazing photo too Mrs Irvine!)

P6/7 have been learning to use code.org to make animals dance.

By using different steps each animal moves in different ways and dances along to their favourite tune.

We were a little late making our pancakes but they were well worth waiting for!

These chefs made their very own batter from start to finish.

Todays technology challenge was to make a paper sculpture.

We could only use newspaper, scissors, wool, tape and a ruler

It had to be 30cms tall, and support a toy pig for at least 1 minute.

Each group managed the challenge!

Impressive !

P6/7 created their own sunflowers. They filled their petals with positive images and messages of support. There are peace doves, hearts, flags and positive words. The children have taken part in thoughtful discussions about the current situation in Ukraine.

Look at our marvellous Dance Leaders who were up and ready nice and early to lead the "Wake up and Shake Up" Class.

On Thursday P6/7 braved the elements to join The Badenoch Shinty Memories group down at the Dell.

Although the weather wasn't the best it was nice to catch up with some members of the community.

Well done P6/7!

Working with Columba 1400 this week our value was 'integrity'.

We created a 'Welcome To Our School' guide, focusing on different aspects of the school community.

It's time to start thinking more deeply about how we put our values into action in our everyday life.

Some of us have been learning to draw and make representations of prisms.

Getting them not to fall over proved rather tricky!

P6/7 had the best day ever on Wednesday in what will be a real highlight of our year. We were thrilled to take part in a full day of STEM activities thanks to UHI Newton Rooms. The pupils showed great skill and creativity in a series of challenges using robots. There were some fantastic problem solving skills observed with pupils cooperating positively and enthusiastically. Huge thanks to Scott from The Newton Rooms .

We were very lucky to have the fantastic opportunity to partake in a STEM workshop  where we got to explore Robotics and Mathematics. We used our knowledge of measurements and coding skills to program robots to move based on the rotations of it’s wheels. We had great fun!

More 2D and 3D objects to discuss!

We made skeletons of 3D objects

Busy with baking again today!

There are lots of skills being used in our baking.

Clear communication

Great organisation

Precise measuring

Creativity

Excellent hand-eye coordination

Patience!

Looking good for Term 4!

Term 4 here we come!

For our Art this week we have started our collaborative collage.

We are really looking forward to our Jubilee Celebrations!

We were using different mixtures to see which cleaned the pennies the best.

The ketchup and the Hot Sauce did the best job! We decided that this was because they contained weak acid. Ketchup contains vinegar, a weak acid, which breaks down the copper oxide on the surface of the penny.

P6/7 were treated to their own special performance by our very own musicians. You haven't been playing for long but you are all doing so well!

Well done!

These pupils were following instructions to make a lego Buckingham Palace.

We all enjoyed our first session with Penny.

Penny was very impressed with our biking skills!

We are all looking forward to our next session

Bikability was amazing this week.

A huge Thank you to  Kingussie Coop for donating all the lovely fruit to make the smoothies!

We each had to pedal furiously to make our very own smoothie!

Look who popped in for a visit! It was great to see  Miss McAlister!

We even had a quick game of SPLAT!

Miss Mc Alister could hardly believe how much the P.7's had grown in a few years. We had a lovely trip down memory lane!

Another lovely visitor!

All looking our best for the Jubilee Celebrations

We all had a great time at the Jubilee Picnic !

We couldn't have asked for better weather!

The performance of The Twits was hilarious!

Thank you very much   Kingussie and Vicinity Community Council!

We had a lovely walk up through the Tom Baraidh Woods.

P.6 having been creating some natural artwork!

Well done, great imaginations!

P.6 created a helpful guide for our new Primary 1 pupils.

They were delighted with it!

P.6 made the most delicious Mars Bar, mallow, white chocolate, Krispie cake!

They said that it was amazing!!
