P1/2/3
Mrs Wood
Here is what we have been learning about in P1/2:
2022/2023
Hallowe'en
All dressed up for the Hallowe'en Parade!
Scooping the pumpkin!
"It's slime inside!"
"It is cold and wet and there's crunchy bits like beasties!"
P1/2 Pumpkin
We all agreed what we wanted our class pumpkin to look like - very, very scary!
Harvest Festival
We celebrated Harvest Festival. We collected food and donated it to the local food hub.
Harvest Festival Assembly
We sang Oats and Beans and Barley grow in the whole school assembly.
We designed a science experiment to show what plants need to grow. We decided to plant radish seeds. First, we filled the pots with compost.
Then we made a hole for the seed.
We popped in a seed and covered it up. We put four pots in different places. Two pots were watered; two pots were not.
The pots that had been watered grew a radish plant. The watered pot in the dark had a yellow shoot but it turned green on the sunny windowsill!
Sports for Champions
Chris Bennett, hammer thrower put us through our paces at the Sports for Champions sponsored event.
Busy in numeracy
Skip Counting
Counting in 10s
"it was easy with the dice because they are flat and not fluffy"
using lots of different things
"pom poms are hard to line up. They keep moving and running away!"
Here we are ready to start P1/2
2021/2022
Picnic in the Park!
What a super, hot, sunny day for a wonderful Jubilee Picnic followed by a walk to the Badenoch Centre to watch 'The Twits'. We all enjoyed ourselves!
Jubilee Decorations!
We explored the 'Union Jack' and discovered it is made of the flags of the countries that make up the United Kingdom. We made our own flags to decorate our table at the 'Jubilee Picnic'
Jubilee Celebration!
We are all dressed up ready for the Jubilee Celebration!
Crowns
Some of us used symmetry to decorate our crowns.
We named an Alpaca!
We were delighted to be asked to name one of the alpacas from Cairngorm Alpaca Trekking. We thought of lots of names, then chose six we really liked. We made a pictogram and used pictures of our faces to vote for.....'Cloud'.
Science
This week we have built a circuit using a battery pack, cables and a tiny light bulb. We found out that the bulb will only light up if the bulbs, the cables and battery pack make a circle!
We have been exploring 2D and 3D shapes.
We enjoyed finding shapes all over the school and making cubes with straws.
Shrove Tuesday
Today we made vegan pancakes. They were delicious!
Chinese New Year
We celebrated Chinese New Year! First we cleaned the classroom, then we put up our decorations. We each got a red envelope containing a small gift. We explored writing Chinese symbols for 'Good Luck' and 'Happy New Year'.
Precision Cutting
Lots of snips along a line to make our lanterns.
Chinese writing
We wrote 'Good Luck'!
RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch
We made bird feeders with larch cones, fat and seeds. We are hoping to attract lots of birds so we can count them for the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.
We decided to recycle soft plastic
We rinse our crisp packets in cold water and let them dry.
We'll keep them until the box is full
Then we'll take turns to go to the Co-op and drop them in the recycling bin.
paper and card
in the school recycling bin
used batteries
at the Co-op and Boots

Climate Change
We have been exploring climate change and how it will damage our precious planet. We thought about ways we can help. We looked round Kingussie and found we can recycle....
Science: two weeks later
"The grass has gone yellow!"
We found out that grass needs sun to keep it healthy.
Science: Keeping plants healthy
We investigated what plants need to keep healthy. We covered a small area of grass with our upturned sandpit to block out the sun.
Art - Jackson Pollock
We explored the 'active painting' style of American artist Jackson Pollock.
Safe, Strong, Free
We enjoyed workshops about Bullying, Strangers and Secrets. We learned how to put our hand out and say a firm "NO!" to bullying behaviours.
We made our own noticeboard!
We've been practising cutting and gluing and have done a fabulous job of decorating our reading corner.
Our Outdoor Learning Day, 4th November 2021
Using natural materials, we did story mapping, symmetry and Rangoli patterns. We also found out about our native trees.
Welcome back to Term 2!
We used what we know about symmetry to make Hallowe'en decorations. We found it was quicker to fold the card and cut out half a shape to make pumpkins, bats, ghosts and mummies!
Tourism
We have been learning about 'Tourism' this week and we built a caravan!
We made a tent!
We added a campervan.
Then we moved it to the trees and made a new holiday resort!
Our Local Area
We looked through leaflets and cut out all the things we can do in our local area. The Folk Park was our favourite.
Welcome to P1/2 everyone!
Please have a look through a few photographs of our P1/2 classroom.
Our Literacy Corner
We enjoy using all the resources on our writing and cutting table. We choose books to read every day and use the spelling board to help us put letters together to make words.
ICT
We often use Chromebooks to help us in our learning.
Real World Resources
We play with real pots, pans, kettle, spoons and often make soup with fresh stones and bits of paper!
Loose Parts Toolkit
We have lots of bits and bobs to play with and sort. Our favourite at the moment is making long finger nails with clothes pegs then trying to pick up dominoes!
