When prompted, select “call using internet audio”;

Mute button is on the bottom left when you scroll over the Zoom screen.  Make sure you are muted when others are speaking.  It’s nice to quickly unmute and mute yourself again when someone introduces themselves to say hello and do the same at the end of their share to thank them.  But everyone needs to be muted at all times when someone is trying to talk.  If you don’t do it the moderator will.

Also you see a chat icon at the bottom of your screen when you scroll over the zoom interface.  If you click that chat icon it brings up a sidebar chat screen on the right of the zoom interface.  This allows you to communicate with “everyone” or privately message individual people participating in the zoom.  It’s always nice to say hello to people you know when you log on in this private message area, to thank speakers after they share here, and particularly to reach out to newcomers and those who are struggling with a few words of encouragement.

Also on the menu bar at the bottom of the zoom screen when you scroll over it is an icon that says “participants”.  If you click that icon it puts a list of participants at the top of the chat portion screen.  Just below that it will also pop up an icon on the chat menu for “raise your hand”.   We use this icon to get in line to speak.  If you want to share click the “raise your hand” icon and the chair will recognize you in the order in which you raised your virtual hand.

If you have logged into Zoom before joining the meeting, Zoom will pop up your user name as your ID.  If you don’t log into zoom it will just use your device type.  It is helpful for everyone to actually have a screen name so they can be identified by the chair.  If you did not log into zoom or just don’t want to be use your Zoom login as your screen name go to the box where you see your own video and hover over it with your cursor.  You will see three dots appear in the top right of your box.  Click on that and you will see a menu of actions you can take.  One of those is “rename”.  Click that and you can reset your screen name as anything you want.  Feel free to use creativity or be irreverent.  But use something that allows you to be called on that is better than iPhone, or Samsung, or iPad.
