In Alcoholics Anonymous, a “Commitment” refers to an opportunity for a group to carry the message of recovery beyond its own meeting. Many AA groups, including Never Alone Again, maintain a calendar of monthly commitment meetings, or commitments—visiting other meetings, hospitals, detox centers, halfway houses, and correctional facilities.
These commitments are vital, as they allow us to share our experience, strength, and hope with those who are still suffering from alcoholism, as well as with others in recovery who benefit from hearing the AA message.
Taking part in a commitment is both an act of service and a powerful reminder of why we stay engaged in our own recovery. Sharing your story helps others know they are not alone, while reinforcing your own connection to sobriety and fellowship.
How It Works
Outgoing Commitments: Our group visits other online meetings to share about recovery and to bring the AA message of hope and change.
Incoming Commitments: Other AA groups visit our meeting, bringing fresh voices, perspectives, and inspiration to our recovery community.
NAAG hosts a biannual in-person commitment, known as the Boat Meeting. This special gathering takes place in South Boston on Saturday mornings each June and September, offering fellowship and connection.
