Please check out my COVID-19 concussion resources
All those recommended are people who have helped me tremendously and I think are worth reaching out to if you haven't.
Dr. Peter Wenger- Concussion Specialist
Princeton Sports & Family Medicine, Lawrence NJ. (16098969190)
Dr. Wenger works hard to connect with each patient while being concise and not wasting time.
He works directly with Hopewell High School and is very good about remembering notes for school
VERY responsive
More of an acute concussion doctor, less of a headache treatment guy
Dr. Emil Matarese- Neurologist
Capital Health, Langhorne PA ((215) 741-9555) , Pennington NJ. ((609) 537-7300)
Dr. Matarese takes the time with each patient.
He is knowledgeable and works to find a solution.
He is not as focused on medications, and more focused on a variety of therapies, especially if meds have already been tried.
Sometimes a long wait to get an appointment, so I would get on the list, you can always cancel later and someone will get your spot.
Dr. Corrine Kurz- Psychiatrist
Alexander Road Associates, West Windsor NJ ((609) 419-0400)
Dr. Kurz is a fantastic psychiatrist because she knows a lot about what she is doing and is very nice
she made me feel very comfortable and understood through the whole process with finding a medication that works
often concussions, or prolonged pain can cause psychological issues and trauma. Finding a good psychiatrist is crucial
Dr. Angelo Colavita- Chiropractor
Atlas Orthogonal, Moorestown NJ ((856) 235-7779) , Clifton NJ ((973) 777-1933)
Sometimes in a concussion a small bone in your spine moves, causing a shift.
For me the shift meant that my body was off center and my left leg was drawn up an inch, making learning to walk again uncomfortable and unbalanced and I ended up with bursitis in my hip.
The procedure looks scary, it looks like a giant needle but its not. It's an ultrasound, it doesn't even touch you, and it is instantly better. (they take X rays to calculate exactly what needs to be done. And you get to see the before and after.
Dr. Vito Pagano- Chiropractor
Pagano Chiropractic, Pennington NJ, (609-730-1970)
Dr. Pagano can also help with atlas misalignment, as well as any other chiropractic issue.
MUCH closer than Atlas Orthogonal.
No fancy x rays or procedure machine, so a different type of chiropractic, but it works nonetheless.
Children's Specialized Hospital- TBI program
RWJ, Outpatient around Nj, Inpatient in New Brunswick Nj (1-888-244-5373)
While I did not attend the brain injury program, I was around it and did similar things to the brain injury patients while in the hospital at the pain program (information below)
Sees patients with both TBIs and TBDs
The program is most focused on regaining function, in "seating and positioning, independent mobility, communication, daily activities, and computer access." (quote from linked site)
Children's Specialized Hospital- Chronic Pain Program
RWJ, Outpatient around Nj, inpatient in New Brunswick NJ (1-888-244-5373)
I know there are similar programs around the country, this is the one I attended.
When I learned about this program it was told to me like it was a "cure" but it is not
Whether it is a cure or not, it is primarily aimed at function. Like if you can only walk with a mobility aid because of your pain disorder, they can help you, but if you just struggle with the pain, it won't help as much.
