The Khalsa School Internship Program provides Sikh youth an opportunity to develop leadership, strengthen their Sikhi knowledge, and contribute meaningfully to the school community. These unpaid internships are open to Khalsa School students and college students who wish to serve as Teacher Assistants (TA) or Administrative Interns.
We offer two types of internships:
Supports classroom teachers and works directly with students.
Supports Khalsa School leadership with school-wide operations and coordination.
To apply for either internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Must be entering 10th grade or higher in their regular school
Must have completed two years of the highest-level Sikh History class
Must be able to read all 5 Nitnem Banis from a Gurmukhi Gutka
(Support and additional practice will be offered as needed)
Cannot be assigned as a TA in their parent’s classroom
Must have attended Khalsa School for the past two consecutive years
Exception: Students returning after a 1–2-year break may apply if all other requirements are met.
These students must complete a pre-assigned project by the Admin Team before the start of the school year.
All Teacher Assistants and Administrative Interns are expected to:
Attend the Sikh Ambassador Program each year
Not miss more than one class per month
Teach one class every 6 weeks
(This requirement may be relaxed if the TA is making good progress on their Capstone Project)
Share Capstone Project updates with Admins every 6–8 weeks
Communicate in advance with the primary teacher if unable to attend class
Attend all mandatory meetings unless excused by the Admin Team
Maintain professionalism, accountability, and seva-minded behavior
Understand that interns who are consistently inactive may be replaced
Interns may request official sign-off for volunteer hours to submit to their schools.
Interns are responsible for tracking their hours
Hours must be signed by the primary classroom teacher once per month
Hours older than one month will not be approved
Final signed hours must be submitted to the Khalsa School Admin Team for verification
Supports Khalsa School operations and coordination.

Consolidate and maintain school-wide attendance records
Assist with planning and coordinating the Khalsa School Divan
Help coordinate kirtan by Khalsa School students during Divans and Gurpurabs
Complete a Capstone Project, selected at the beginning of the year and due by year-end
Supports primary teachers in classroom instruction and student engagement.
Number of positions: As needed
Assist with day-to-day classroom activities
Take attendance and share it with the Administrative Intern
Provide support to students who need extra help during or after class
Lead occasional class sessions independently
Serve as a backup teacher when the primary teacher is absent
Document the curriculum and teaching materials and upload to a shared central folder
Complete a Capstone Project, selected at the beginning of the year and due by year-end
All interns will be formally acknowledged during the End-of-Year Khalsa School Divan in front of the Sangat for their seva and contribution to the school community.
Class assignments for TAs are based on interest, skill level, request, and school needs.
