Step 1: Sign up for an account on YouTube.

To sign up, click Sign In (upper right corner of YouTube). Then follow the steps below depending on whether you or your school has an accessible Google Account:

I already have a Google Account - just sign in with your Google Account email address and password.

I don't have a Google Account - click Create Account. You can then enter some basic information to create your new Google Account. You'll be asked to create a Google username when signing up. This is for your new Gmail email address only - it will not be your public name on YouTube. Once you're done setting up your Google Account, click Back to YouTube to get started with your new account.

Step 2: Create a YouTube channel.

1. Make sure you're signed in to YouTube.

2. On the left-hand side of the YouTube homepage, click My Channel. If you do not get a pop-up telling you to create a channel, then you already have a YouTube channel and do not need to create a new one.

3. If you want to make a YouTube channel for a Google+ page that you manage, such as your personal Google+ account, you can choose it here. Otherwise, click the “To use as business or other name link.

4. Fill out the details to create your new channel.

Step 3: Upload your video to YouTube.

1. Make sure you’re signed in to YouTube.

2. On the top right-hand side of the YouTube homepage, click the Upload button.

3. Before you start uploading the video you can chose the video privacy settings. The default privacy setting is Public. Please don't choose the option "for children" as that will limit how WHOI can share content and create a Data Jam playlist.

Click on the drop-down menu and select Unlisted from the options. (Note: uploading an unlisted video means that only people who know the link to your video will have access to view it. Your video will not be accessible to the public.)

4. Select the video file you'd like to upload from your computer. You can also record a video from your webcam, or create a video slideshow.

5. As the video is uploading, you can add important information (Project title, Description = NES-LTER Data Jam 20xx-xx, School Name, Supervisor/Teacher's last name, optional student names ).

6. Change your privacy settings (double-check to make sure you have set your video to Unlisted). If you uploaded your video from your webcam, you will not have to wait for your video to upload. If you uploaded a video file from your computer, you will have to wait for your video to upload and then click Done.

7. Once you have uploaded your unlisted video, you can copy and paste that link on your Scientific Report to submit to NES-LTER Data Jam. (If you signed the release form, NES-LTER does have permission to share the video on their website as part of Data Jam media sharing.)
