What You Could Help With:
Dogs & Puppies - feeding, cleaning kennels and runs, walking and providing enrichment and socialisation.
Cats & Kittens - feeding, cleaning enclosures, assisting with socialisation and enrichment.
Small Animals (e.g. rabbits, guinea pigs) - feeding, cleaning hutches, and spending time socialising with them.
Hospital care - supporting our team with cleaning, preparing food, restocking supplies, and caring for unwell or recovering animals.
Other Animals - supporting the care of birds, reptiles, and other species.
You may choose to focus on one area or assist across several, depending on your interests and availability.
What We Are Looking For:
Reliable, self-motivated, and hands-on volunteers.
Able to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
Physically able to handle cleaning, lifting, or animal handling.
Confidence around your chosen species. You’ll need to remain calm, patient, and comfortable working closely with animals of different sizes, behaviours, and temperaments.
Previous animal care experience is a plus, though training and support is provided.
Good English comprehension.
Must be at least 16 years old, ot least 18 years old to work with canines.
Preferably able to commit for at least 6 months.
Are you a friendly, approachable person who’s comfortable talking to people and working with computers and administrative systems? Your contribution ensures our centre runs smoothly and every visitor and animal receives the attention they deserve.
What You Could Help With:
Administrative support - preparing documents, scanning, answering and redirecting phone calls. greeting visitors, assisting with adoptions, and helping complete paperwork
Adoption and foster assistance - greeting visitors, assisting with adoptions, and helping complete paperwork, helping with animal handovers, organising equipment, and supporting the Customer Service Team.

How You Can Help
Our volunteer from home roles offer flexible, family-friendly ways to support SPCA, including:
Sewing, crafting & toy making - create enrichment toys, blankets, or ‘Adopt Me’ gear to brighten the lives of animals in our care.
Sorting, collecting & donation drives - help by cutting rags, sorting newspapers, collecting supplies, or running donation drives in your community.
You may choose to focus on one area or assist across several depending on your interests and availability. These activities are a great way for individuals, families, or community groups to contribute- especially for kids and young supporters who aren’t yet old enough to volunteer onsite.
Getting Started
Before you begin, please contact your local SPCA Centre to check what items or materials are most needed. Some centres may even be able to provide donated fabric, paper, or other supplies to help you get started.

Do you enjoy being out on the road and want to make a difference for animals in your community? We’re looking for reliable, safety-conscious volunteers to join our team of drivers and help keep SPCA’s operations moving smoothly across Aotearoa.
Volunteer Drivers play an essential role in supporting both our animals and our wider community- ensuring animals, donations, and supplies get where they need to go safely and on time.
What You Could Help With:
Animal transport - safely transporting animals between centres, veterinary clinics, foster homes, or to and from the community.
Community & foster transport - delivering supplies, collecting foster animals, or assisting with appointment transport.
Donation collections - picking up food, goods, or equipment from supermarkets, businesses, or community donors.
General deliveries & errands - supporting one-off transfers or collections for your local centre or op shop network.
You may choose to focus on one area or assist across several depending on your interests and availability. Volunteers may be required to drive an SPCA vehicle or their own vehicle (subject to centre resource and approval).
What We Are Looking For:
Must be at least 18 years old.
Full, clean, current NZ driver’s licence.
Safe, confident, and courteous driver with good local area knowledge.
Reliable, proactive, and able to follow directions independently.
Physically fit- some lifting, loading, and bending required.
Good English comprehension.
Able to drive both manual and automatic vehicles (preferred).
Experience handling animals or driving vans is an advantage, but full training and support will be provided.
Able to provide a Ministry of Justice Check.

Our Centre Support team plays a vital role in keeping everything running smoothly - from helping with laundry and donations to organising and cleaning around the centre.

Laundry duties - washing, drying, folding, and organising clean bedding and donated goods.
Donation sorting & storage - organising, cleaning, and restocking donated items and equipment.
General cleaning & organising - ensuring public and staff areas are kept clean and well organised

Are you looking for a fun, flexible way to make a difference for animals? Event volunteering is a great option for those who want to support SPCA’s work but can’t commit to regular shifts - or who simply love getting involved in community events and fundraising activities!
What You Could Help With:
Local events - Helping at community events such as centre open days, adoption events, or special campaigns.
Local fundraising - Helping at community fundraisers such as sausage sizzles, market stalls or quiz nights.
National Fundraising - Supporting fundraising activities, including SPCA’s Fill the Bucket Appeal and Cupcake Day.

When You Will Be Needed
Each centre has different opportunities throughout the year- from one-off event days to larger campaigns. National events run throughout the year, including SPCA Cupcake Day and Annual Street Appeal. Centres will contact you when opportunities arise in your region.

Do you have a specialist skill and want to use your talents to help animals? We’re looking for passionate and creative volunteers who can use their professional or personal expertise to make a difference for SPCA- whether that’s through photography, videography or other specialist areas.
How You Can Help
Specialist volunteers help us tell the stories of animals in our care and support SPCA’s community work in a variety of ways, including:
Photography- capturing high-quality images of animals for adoption profiles, campaigns, and events.
Videography- producing short videos for social media, foster recruitment, volunteer promotion, or education resources.
Other specialist skills- such as graphic design, writing, plumbing, IT, carpentry, or other areas that can support SPCA’s operations and outreach.
Each centre’s needs will vary, and opportunities may be one-off projects or ongoing support roles depending on your skillset and availability.
What We’re Looking For
Relevant experience or training in their chosen field (professional or advanced hobbyist level).
Reliable, self-motivated, and comfortable working independently or alongside staff.
Confident communicating and collaborating with others.
Good understanding of written and spoken English.
A genuine passion for helping animals and supporting SPCA’s mission.
Must be at least 16 years old.
Hours are flexible and depend on the nature of each project. Some tasks can be done on-site, while others can be completed remotely.
Many of the animals that come into our SPCA Centres across the country need additional care, treatment and socialisation before finding their new forever home.
Our volunteer foster parents provide a temporary home for these animals and help them recover from surgery, give them medicine for an illness, or work with them to improve their behaviour.
We need foster parents to provide temporary homes for cats, dogs, small animals and farm animals!
