The GEM (‘Go the Extra Mile’) Recognition programme recognises the hard work that our passionate people (employees and volunteers) do to go above and beyond their role requirements to help the SPCA’s cause and to embody the SPCA values. The programme celebrates our ‘GEMs' and shows our appreciation for those special actions.
You’re a GEM!
If you are a GEM, you’re someone who has Gone the Extra Mile. You’re someone who has behaved in a way that has really brought our values to life. You’re someone who has gone the extra mile for someone else, for our animals or to help our community. You show initiative, helping in other areas, stretching the requirements of your role to encompass bigger and better things because you want to, living the SPCA values and encouraging others to do the same.
You’re someone who has done more than what was expected just because you’re a GEM.
How do I nominate an employee or volunteer?
All employees, management and volunteers can nominate each other. This does not have to be someone in the same team as you or even the same region. If someone/ anyone acts like a GEM, we want to know!
Two questions to answer in your nomination email:
Why is this person a GEM?
Which value best expresses their behaviour?
Each quarter 6 gift cards will be awarded to the following groups:
Animal Services x 2
Op Shop
National Support Office
Op Shop Volunteer
Animal Services Volunteer
**Please complete a nomination form via the button above! **
What happens then?
The SLT team will choose a winner from each group. These GEMs will be recognised by the CEO personally in their email updates and all winners will receive a $100 gift voucher and values card with the chosen value for their behaviour.
Value: We Serve
Anthony and Susanne (Partner Duo) both go above and beyond at the Nelson Centre to get things moving! They do everything from helping with laundry, animal care or administration but also improve overall items and systems around the centre - they will work and find a solution to everything that gets thrown their way. No problem is to big! They recently helped create a sawdust pathway around our centre to help with volunteers slipping in muddy terrain, rearranged offices for better functionality, creating custom shelving to fit the purpose of challenges such as litter tray drying areas or foster supply storage! They also helped with sandbagging and redirecting water away from the buildings during our recent weather events! Not only are they here almost every day of the week, and have recently started helping out the opshop on rainy days too, but they also bring us in lovely vegan baking! which always goes down a treat. I'd love to show even just a small amount of appreciation to them for all they do for us here in Nelson! It makes a world of a difference for other volunteers, staff and animals! I can't thank them enough.
Value: We are One
Judy has volunteered at the SPCA for as long as I can remember. Over my 8 years volunteering she has been the one volunteer I have continued to see at the centre almost every time I pop in. She dedicates so much of her time in a really consistent way. She dedicates time outside of the work in the centre to make snuffle rugs and toys. She has been a wonderful foster carer too - she’s done it all. What I love most about her is her warmth to all the volunteers, she remembers things that are going on for me and follows up with me how I’m feeling- she’s such a warm caring person to both the animals and the people around her.
