Live Participation allows teachers to control the pace of the lesson or video while students participate on their devices, whether in-person or remote. The video will also show you how to view and display student responses during a live lesson, toggle between student and teacher view, as well as add activities on the fly.
Student-Paced mode allows you to share an asynchronous lesson with students. Students move through the lesson on their own time and pace making it perfect for independent activities and personalized instruction both inside and outside of the classroom. See the Resources section for how students can use the Immersive Reader to access accomodations while completing a Nearpod lesson.
Note: If you edit a lesson after generating a Student Paced code, the code will be lost and will need to be recreated.
As Nearpod Activities are completed, Nearpod collects and stores the responses from your students whether the lesson was delivered in Student Paced or Live Participation mode. For each session's report, you can view response data by activity or student. Additionally, reports, can be downloaded as a PDF or CSV, and by whole class or student. You can also share a report with a colleague, administrator, or parent.
Getting Ready ...
Login to your Nearpod account.
From your lesson library, hover over the lesson you worked on during last module's task and click Preview.
Preview Your Lesson
Preview your lesson to make sure it looks and works as you intend (use the arrows to move through the slides). You will have the ability to do some of the activities as well to see how they work.
Click < My Lessons to return to your lesson library.
If you would like to make any adjustments to the lesson based on your preview, from your lesson library, hover over the lesson and click Edit. Make adjustements. Then click Save & Exit.
Launch your lesson in Student Paced Mode
Once you are satisfied with the lesson, you will now generate a link to this lesson in Student-Paced Mode. This is the link you will later submit.
From your lesson library, hover over the lesson, click Teach and then select Student Paced.
Ensure Require student responses and prevent skipping is OFF. This will allow you and me to move through this lesson freely. After this course is over, you can turn this back on.
Click Copy Link - Please note that if you make further edits to this lesson you will need to generate a new link.
Launch your lesson in Student Paced Mode
Open a new tab and paste the link into the address bar.
Complete the lesson as if you were a student. Move through the slides. If you enter an answer to an activity, make sure to click the Submit or Done button before moving on. If you enabled Immersive Reader, try it out to see how it works.
Optional: If you would like, complete the lesson in student-paced mode 1-2 more times using a different name. This will allow you to see how the reports work a little better in the next part of the task.
View the Lesson Report
From nearpod.com/library, click Reports.
Click on the lesson title. You will see all sessions where this activity has been launched (you probably only will see one option at this point).
Next to that session, click the pencil icon and rename it "Nearpod Course Demo", or something relevant, so you know this isn't data from your students.
Click on the session to view the report
Take a few minutes to browse through the Summary, Activity Reports, and Student Reports tab.
The Summary tab will show each student who participated in the lesson and how the student performed on each activity.
Activity Reports will allow you to see response data for each activity separately (just change the Activities dropdown).
The Student Reports will allow you to see response data on a student-by-student basis. If you want, you can download a student's report.
OPTIONAL: Launch your lesson in Live Participation Mode
If you want to see what it's like to lead a Nearpod lesson for a classroom full of students, follow these prompts to demo the feature for your lesson:
From the My Lessons area, hover over your lesson, click Teach and then select Live Participation.
A box will pop up that contains a code and sharing options. You will be using the code (you're also welcome to use the link).
From another device OR another browser window (we will refer to this as the Student Screen), visit join.nearpod.com and enter the code you see on the Teacher Screen, then click Join. Enter a name and click Join Lesson.
From the Teacher Screen, close out the dialogue box with the join info. In the top right, ensure you are in Teacher view. You should see one student has joined. Use the blue arrow to move to the next slide. You will notice the Student Screen changes.
Take some time to move through the lesson to see how it looks for both the teacher and student.
From the Student Screen, complete activities as they are presented so you can experiment with reviewing and sharing responses from the Teacher Screen.
Experiment with the whiteboard and adding elements on the fly.
Here are some additional resources for you to reference now or at a later time.
