Using Nearpod, teachers can create and deliver engaging digital lessons that contain dynamic media and various types of formative assessment that will give you insight into student learning. Teachers can deliver digital lessons by using a premade lesson from Nearpod's library or uploading existing materials. Students can access Nearpod lessons easily from any device without an account. Nearpod provides the flexibility to deliver lessons live or asynchronously.
Watch this for a short demo of the sign up process. If Nearpod is not approved for use in your district, sign up using a personal email account.
Let's explore Nearpod and see where "things" are so that you can better navigate the platform during this course.
Sign Up for a Nearpod Account
If you already have an account, you can skip this step. Login to your account to ensure you can access it.
Visit nearpod.com/signup
Use the Sign Up with Google button to create your account (if Nearpod is not approved in your district, use a personal account)
Play with a demo
At the end of the sign up process, when you reach the home screen of Nearpod, click the Play demo button. This will show you what an activity in Live Participation mode would like from a teacher vs. student device.
Temporarily upgrade your account This is not needed if you have a paid Nearpod account through school.
You will be opting in to a 30 day trial that provides a Gold Subscription. This upgrade is done with a couple of clicks and you do not need to provide any payment details. The upgrade will give you the ability to demo all Nearpod features throughout the course without worrying about running out of storage. At the end of the trial your account will revert to Silver status. Upgrading gives you the option to explore paid features (the Learning Materials will not cover paid features, however you will notice that at the bottom of each page there are additional resources provided on these features for those interested in exploring extra functionalities).
To upgrade your free account for 30 days:
Once logged in to Nearpod, click the blue Create button with the drop down
Select Use Google Slides Add-on
Click Try Gold FREE
Click Get Gold
You will be returned to your libary. When you click your account icon in the top right you will see that your account is now labeled GOLD and you have been upgraded from 300MB to 1GB of storage.
