Living in Taiwan

The visa-issuance procedure is different, depending on countries where visitors come from. For this reason, students are required to communicate with the persons in charge of this matter at their home university. NCYU will supply certificates or relevant documents necessary for your visa application. Students joining the summer session are highly recommended to complete the procedure one month in advance.

Students can apply for medical coverage insurance (NT$500 per month) for international student in NCYU but the process will take 2-3 business days after the students have arrive at NCYU. Securing a personal insurance is advised. Students should join a private insurance by themselves, or as recommended by their home university before leaving.

Chiayi city is in southwest part of Taiwan and best known as the access point of the scenic mountain area of Alishan which locates in Chiayi County. Alishan is one of Taiwan's most popular attractions. It is famous for its sunrises over seas of clouds, misty forests, and high mountain teas. The best way to travel Alishan is taking Alishan Forest Railway from Chiayi train station.

Lantan Campus is about 15 min drive/ride (scooter) from the downtown area of Chiayi. The easiest way to get around is to ride a motocycle or scooter; you could ride a bike too. City Bus is also available. There is one bus stop next to the cafeteria, one outside of the gate and one at Lantan which is 5 min walking from the dormitory.

The Lantan campus has one student canteen and two convenient stores. A meal at the University canteen would normally cost about $60-80 NTD. Meals outside of the campus and in Chiayi City may range from $100-300 NTD per meal per person. Estimated cost of living is about $9000-12000 per month depending on the lifestyle of the individual student. Most education facilities for this Programme and accommodation facilities are located on Lantan Campus, which are in walking distances. A number of bus services run between Chiayi city center and Lantan campus at NCYU. There is a special flat fare of 12 NTD for any single journey between Chiayi City center and Lantan campus. Students need to prepare the coins or use easy card ($100 NTD for empty card) for bus.
