Incoming Student

Students enrolled in the Postgraduate (Master) Programme on Tropical Fisheries with International Linkage (ILP) will select courses offered by National Chiayi University (NCYU). Foreign students will attend the classes together with NCYU's local students who are also enrolled in the Programme. The course materials given are based on the syllabus and subject of the course.

The academic year in NCYU starts in August and is conducted in two semesters every year (1^st semester, August-January, and 2nd semester, February-July).New student registration starts in September every year.

Students who are enrolled in the ILP program and take courses on NCYU campus can enter into the Programme in either semester or take Summer Courses which are prepared for ILP program by College of Life Science, NCYU. The Summer Session starts in the first week of July and continues for 1 month. For students who cannot stay in NCYU for a whole semester (18 weeks), it is recommended that they enroll in the Summer Session, during which 6-unitsubjects will be taught for 6-8 hours a day from Monday to Friday within a month.

National Chiayi University (NCYU) was established on February 1, 2000, by merging the previous National Chiayi Teachers College and the previous National Chiayi Institute of Technology. The establishment of NCYU is the first successful integration of higher education institutions in Taiwan. NCYU is also the oldest and largest comprehensive University in the Yunlin-Chiayi area.

NCYU now has seven colleges: Teachers College, College of Humanities and Arts, College of Management, College of Agriculture, College of Science and Engineering, College of Life Sciences, and College of Veterinary Medicine. In the academic year of 2020, the University offers 39 undergraduate programs: 12 in-service undergraduate programs, 39 master programs, 14 in-service master programs (including EMBA), and 7 doctoral programs.

NCYU is comprised of four campuses and a practicum forest, with a total land area of 292.53 hectares (including the 117.02-hectare practicum forest). The four campuses include Lantan Campus, Minsyong Campus, Sinmin Campus, and Linsen Campus. Lantan Campus (136.2 hectares), where the administrative headquarter locates, is situated between two famous scenic areas, Lantan Reservoir and Renyitan Reservoir.

Students who need to apply for a scholarship should contact the person in charge in their home university as earlier as possible. NCYU may provide certain scholarship support for students joining the summer session. The information regarding the support plan can be obtained from your home university in advance. The annual support plan is announced around January every year.

All the courses in ILP are taught in English. However, knowing a few basic Chinese words can help you to communicate with local people, shop for groceries and travel in Taiwan.
