General Information
Committee Chairs lead their associated committees for the term of at least one year. Committee chairs are appointed by the NCCGC Board of Directors and are not membership elected positions. Committee Chairs shall notify the Board of their intent to vacate their position so another member may be appointed. Committee members shall volunteer to serve for at least one year.
Annual Conference Committee
Members: Heather Tabery (Co-chair), Lauri Black (Co-Chair), Diane Zastrow
Plan the annual NCCGC conference and hold regular planning meetings with committee members
Explore and identify conference venue, coordinate with event planner at venue
Identify and coordinate with conference sponsors and work with the Treasurer for budgets and adhere to policies about conflict of interest
Design educational program and recruit speakers
Apply for category 1 CEUs with NSGC, create evaluation form and all materials for application, submit required documents to NSGC following the conference for attendees claiming credits
Create registration web page and manage registration prior to event
Participate in day of conference activities such as venue set up, audio-visual coordination, attendee check-in, speaker introductions and general communication during event, management of conference evaluation forms
Create speaker gifts within budget and disseminate to speakers
Communications & Networking Committee
Members: Kenny Wong (Chair), Anusha Klinder, Heather Tabery, Jess Gage, Liya Rabkina, Melissa Mills
Establish public communication channels and member social events such as:
Create and manage social media (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.)
Plan social and networking events
Maintain and update NCCGC website
Additional communication pathways may include the following:
Establish liaison with the Genetic Disease Branch regarding state licensure and other related issues
Establish a liaison with Southern California Genetic Counselors group
Explore communications with GCs in local industry to provide education to the membership (e.g., webinars about new technologies, GC roles, etc.)
Membership & Newsletter Committee
Members: Mara Hernandez (Chair), Brianna Tucker, Eva Ferino
Manage membership communication such as:
Review new member registrations and add to Google group
Assist members with posts to Google group
Answer incoming emails from members and prospective members
Creation of a regular e-newsletter with member spotlights and relevant local events
Recruit new members from a variety of backgrounds including new graduates, experienced GCs, GCs new to the area, and those from clinical, industry and academic employers
Professional Outreach Committee
Members: Laurie Nemzer (Chair), Diane Zastrow, Jenny Kim, Ping Gong, Ronit Mazzoni
Identify opportunities for the NCCGC organization to participate in local community and professional activities such as:
Community outreach to diverse groups of students to inform about genetic counseling (e.g., high school, university, etc.)
Coordinate with local genetic counseling programs (Stanford and UCSF) to engage GC students and prospective GC students
