National Center on Intensive Interventions

Intensive intervention helps students with severe and persistent learning and behavioral needs, including students with disabilities. It is a process, not a specific program or product.

To help determine function, school teams should start by collecting data on the A, B, Cs of behavior:

  • Antecedent (A)

  • Behavior (B)

  • Consequence (C)

Once the function is determined, strategies or interventions can be put into place.

Behavior Support Modules

NCII, through a collaboration with the University of Connecticut, developed a set of course content focused on developing educators’ skills in designing and delivering behavior support in intensive intervention.

The seven dimensions of the Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity DBI Process can help educators make informed, systematic decisions in the context of the data-based individualization (DBI) process.
